“Oh, do you mean my furniture?” Daisy was surprised at how calm she was feeling, even with her heart racing. “The apartment may have been in your name, but I bought absolutely everything in it. The bed and bedsheets, all of the bathroom stuff, the three-piece suite and the kitchen utensils…everything I bought. I just took what was mine, and left you what you paid for yourself. That’s all.”

“You stole from me!” Nick yelled. “I’m calling the cops on you!”

“Go ahead. I’ve got receipts of everything. I doubt you’re going to get anywhere with that.”

“Well, then, I’m going to sue you! You can’t do this!”

Daisy snorted.

“You think you can just cheat on me for two years, lie that you were pressured into marriage, desert me on my wedding day and take my honeymoon for yourself, and I would do nothing about it? You really don’t know me at all if you thought I was going to sit there and take it. Thank God I didn’t marry you. Who would want a mooching cheat like you in their life?”

Daisy could hear bangs coming from the apartment opposite. Nick was probably slamming his hand into the wall again. Daisy was just glad she wasn’t in the same room; that could get unnerving.

“You’re a bitch, Daisy. A little bitch who doesn’t know when to be a good girl and go away.”

“That’s rich, after what you’ve done to me! I’m not going to be meek and sit back, Nick. You cheated on me with someone I thought was a friend, and you’ve shown no remorse over it. You’re the bitch here, not me.”

“Get over here right now, and get our furniture back! You had no right to take it!”

“I had every right. Consider yourself lucky I didn’t go the extra mile and sell the things you bought with your money. I like to think I’m not as cruel as that.”

“Where the fuck are you now?”

“As if I’m going to tell you. You and Elena are bitches of the highest order, so you deserve each other. Just leave me alone.”

Daisy hadn’t realized that she had been raising her voice until someone knocked at the door. Then she heard Elena on the other side.

“Daisy? Are you in there?”

Daisy froze. God, Elena had heard her?

“What? Daisy, are you in Lee’s apartment?”

Daisy thought about denying it, but if Elena was outside with her ear pressed to the door, that would be pointless.

“What if I am? At least he was kind enough to house me while I found a new place.”

“WHAT?”

The bellow was loud enough that Daisy had to hold the phone away from her ear, and the shout across the hall made it feel like the walls were vibrating. A moment later, there was a loud banging on the door.

“Get out here now, Daisy!” Nick yelled. “You need to get out here and not hide away like a coward!”

Daisy hung up and went into the hall. Nick banged on the door again, which made the door rattle. She hoped it was strong enough to withstand them.

“I’m not coming out, Nick.”

“You ruined our vacation, and you stole my furniture! You are going to deal with that now!”

“You took someone else on my honeymoon, and I took what belonged to me. I didn’t do anything wrong.” Daisy was getting a headache from the shouting. “I don’t know why you think you have the moral high ground, seeing as you cheated on me for so long. And by the way, you should be getting a bill for the cancellation fee from the vendors, seeing as you’re the one who caused the wedding not to happen in the first place.”

“Excuse me?”

“Consider yourself lucky I’m not asking you to pay me back the thousands of dollars I wasted paying for this fucking wedding. Then again, I might consider it if you don’t leave me alone.”

There was a growl on the other side of the door. This time it sounded like Elena.

“You are such a bitch!” she hissed. “Why can’t you let us be happy?”
