Nathan laughed, clearly enjoying that he won this round. Both of them were only worried about each other. They didn’t see that Jane was playing with them. Jane was still trying to keep her poker face on, but she was failing horribly. I stared at her until she looked at me. I smirked at her and mouthedbad girl. She laughed, giving me an I don’t know what you’re talking about look. She hid behind Tango again giving him love to keep up her innocence. I shook my head, enjoying the run around she was giving the guys.
Jane decided she was done playing games. She kicked all our asses. Nathan looked at her like she had grown an extra head and I finally let out a laugh. “How the hell did you manage that?”
“Beginner’s luck?” She kept a straight face with those enormous hazel eyes of hers. Nathan and Callum just stared at Jane, not even realizing she was in first and the screen changed before they could look at it. Callum narrowed his eyes at her, his suspicion growing.
“Alright guys, eat my dust!” Nathan yelled as the fourth round started. Jane stayed back most of the race, never too far from Nathan or Callum, giving them false hope again. The last lap, she fucked up Nathan with a shell and left a banana for Callum, taking the first-place spot.
“Yes!” she yelled. “That was fun, guys.” She looked smug because her plan worked.
“You little minx.” Callum finally figured out he got hustled. He turned around and smirked at her. “Well played. Well played.”
“Well played? What the hell are you talking about? I won.” Nathan didn’t even realize how wrong he was. The end of the tournament played, and it announced Jane the winner.
Nathan looked at Jane, and it finally clicked. His eyes widened. “Did we just fucking get hustled?”
I laughed at the innocent look Jane gave Nathan. “Dude, if you guys had been paying attention, you would have seen how horrible she was at hiding it.’
“That was a great game, guys.” She took the cash and stuffed it in her bra. Her smugness was reaching Nathan's levels.
“Oh, no you didn’t, you little cheater.” Nathan jumped at her, and she screamed as she barely got away. “No one cons me and gets away with it.” He chased her into the kitchen, Jane’s laugh contagious as she tried to escape Nathan.
“Come on, it was too easy.” Jane laughed, running back into the living room.
Callum stood up to get another beer and Jane ran behind him and shielded herself with his body. She held on to his shirt and pushed herself against his back. “Save me!” She laughed.
“Callum won’t save you.” Nathan stood before them. “You conned him too.”
“Actually, I’m ok with it. I mean, she kicked your ass.” Callum shrugged, his eyes full of mirth.
“Ah, I see how it is, little rascal, I demand a rematch.” Nathan got another beer and opened it up.
“It’s getting late, and I wanted to clean up before I left.” Jane moved from her safety of Callum, checking her watch, but she kept a hand on his back, not trusting Nathan.
“Don’t worry, we’ve got it.” I got up as well to pick up so she wouldn’t worry about it. “Play another game with Nathan.”
“Come on. One more game.” Nathan grabbed Jane and threw her on the sofa.
She giggled, leaning back. “Fine, one game and then I gotta go home.”
“Callum?” Jane looked up at him expectantly.
Callum looked down at her with heat in his eyes. I knew he was thinking what she would look like on her knees, looking up at him like that. “I know when to quit because all that’s happened is me getting my ass kicked.”
“I’ll go easy on you.” Her voice was just a tad husky.
He laughed. “I’m going to clean up. Have fun.” He cleared his throat, and I knew he was probably turned on.
A phone started ringing. “Oh, shit, that’s me.” Jane got up and went to her purse for her phone.
“Hello?” she answered. “Hey Michelle, what’s going on?”
The three of us cleared out the coffee table, taking everything to the kitchen to start the dishes.
“Shit, I’ll be on my way. Yeah, no problem,” I heard Jane.
“Is everything ok?” Callum asked as Jane gathered her stuff.
“There was a big accident on the 92. We are the only level three trauma hospital and most of the injured are being rushed to the hospital. I gotta go.” She kissed Callum on the cheek, then Nathan and then me. I turned my head ever so slightly, so I’d get a kiss on the corner of my mouth. She was in such a hurry, I don’t think she even noticed.
