hard to explain. we weren’t actually trying to get into the next yard, just get somebody’s attention. but poppy found her way through, and she can’t get back.

I stopped abruptly so I wouldn’t crash into Annabel.

We’d reached the area Yasmine had mentioned.

A second later, Poppy’s face came into view.

“Oh, thank goodness,” she cried. She had a few twigs in her hair and appeared a little disheveled. “I was thinking I’d never find a way out.”

“I’m so glad you’re okay,” Yasmine said, rushing toward her.

Right as Poppy lifted her leg to make it over the stone wall that we could now see, a super-authoritative voice shouted from behind her, “Stop right there!”
