My heart damn near skipped a beat. Holy shit, that sounded relaxed and incredible, exactly the sort of night that we all needed after everything we had been through. There was so much steam that needed to be blown off, and this would be a great way to do it. Viola had Sol, so we all knew he would be safe. I just knew this would be awesome.
“I will run you a bath,” I said quietly to Maeve. “Pamper you a little before we head out.”
She stared into my eyes, her gaze twinkling with delight. “I would love that. How do you seem to know exactly what I need at all times?”
I smiled coyly, feeling an intense heat rush to my cheeks. “Oh, I don’t know. Just lucky I guess…”
My words trailed off as her lips turned down into a frown. I didn’t mean to say something to upset Maeve. Although I couldn’t quite figure out what I could have possibly said wrong.
“I have noticed you do that a lot,” she commented. “You downplay how awesome you are. I don’t think you really see it.” She framed my face with her hands and held me there. “You are amazing and I feel lucky to have met a man like you. So in touch with yourself, so down to earth, so zen.”
“We all feel the same,” Kai joined in. “We all think that you are incredible, Matt.”
Wow. I couldn’t express how much this meant to me because I was in shock. There was a real change in the air, a deepening to our bond, our connection was growing and tightening around us, and I honestly couldn’t imagine it happening like this with any other people in the world. I was the lucky one, to have all of them, I was the luckiest dude in the whole damn world and I was never going to take that for granted. I would express that as well at some point, when I wasn’t so emotionally entangled in their compliments. One day, I would let them all know I felt lucky to have them in my life as well. But for now, my duty was to run Maeve a bath because that was exactly what she craved.
