“Also, this might be tougher to hear, but I think Jerry’s gotta retire,” Lane said. “You can’t have the ball dropped when you’re gone.”
Holt went quiet.
“Think about it,” Lane said. “You can hire some new buck who’s eager to please.”
“Wanna move back and do online school?” Holt asked.
Lane smiled. “As much as I love this place, I don’t necessarily want to work the rest of my days playing in the dirt and chasing horses.”
“Ha.” Holt clapped a hand on his brother’s shoulder. “Don’t let Dad hear you say that.”
“Now, let’s go meet this lady of yours.” Lane moved past Holt.
“So, you’re okay with all of this?” Holt asked, following him.
“If there’s a woman out there who can make my oldest brother all googly-eyed, then I’ll support the relationship.”
