“I think we shouldn’t take the risk.” Panic laced her voice. “He could easily hurt you.”

He pulled her into his arms and was glad when she leaned into him, laid her head on his chest. “If I don’t at least meet with him, you’ll never be safe.” He didn’t mention her kids because he didn’t want to scare her even more. “I’m doing this.”

She pulled back, her expression fierce. “You need backup, then. You’re not going alone!”

“I know.”

Some of her fire seemed to fade. “You’ve got someone in mind?”

“I do. A couple people I work with at Red Stone. I’m going to feel them out, see if they’re up to helping.” They had the type of skill for something like this and wouldn’t be recognized by Ryba if they were spotted.

“And if they don’t?”

“They will.” If they didn’t, he’d reach out to Lyosha again, but he wanted to handle this with unfamiliar faces. Ryba wouldn’t recognize Isa or Graysen, likely wouldn’t even notice them at the club.

Zamira gritted her teeth, then pulled him into a fierce hug. “I hate all of this and I hate that you’re involved,” she said against his chest.

“I know. But we’ll work things out.” No matter what.
