Ryba didn’t respond to that, just said, “Fine. We’re square. She’s off my radar for good.”

Thank fuck. “If I see you anywhere near her, or think you’re anywhere near her, you’re dead. Keep your distance. Forever.” Or die. “No one will ever find your body.”

Ryba watched Dimitri for a long moment, then nodded, his expression confirming that he believed him.

Dimitri wanted to think that Ryba did, that he was too afraid to mess with her again. People didn’t always act rationally, however, and Ryba was still a wild card. And unfortunately for Ryba, he’d pissed off more than just Dimitri. He’d pissed off Lizzy and Porter Caldwell with that stunt at the bakery. But Dimitri wasn’t going to bring them up. He was worried if he did, it would spook Ryba into acting irrationally. If he was too afraid, he might think he had nothing to lose.

And people with nothing to lose were the most dangerous of all.

He followed Ryba out, watched him get into his car and drive off. Only then did he get in the SUV with Zamira.

“Well?” Her expression was tense.

“I think he’s off your back for now.”

“How sure are you?”

“I think you need to stay with me for the time being, and we’re keeping someone watching your house.” And if necessary, he was going to suggest that her kids stay with their grandparents even longer. But it hadn’t come to that.

Yet.

She let out a sigh. “He’s a problem,” she finally murmured. “I wish I knew what the hell he was looking for.”

“Yeah.” A problem Dimitri was pretty sure he was going to have to deal with. It didn’t matter that Ryba had a powerful aunt—if he continued to pose a threat to Zamira, he would have to be eliminated.

The problem was making sure nothing fell back on him. Or Zamira. Because Dimitri wouldn’t do anything to put her in danger.
