“I like you too,” she whispered. “But my kids will be home soon and I won’t have all this free time.”

“So?” Was she planning to pull the plug on them when her kids got home?

“So…you might get very sick of coming in last to soccer games and volleyball matches and—”

“Zamira, I get that you’re a parent.”

“You say that you do.”

He tightened his jaw slightly. He knew he wouldn’t be able to convince her with words, he’d have to show her that he wanted all of her. And yeah, it would be a huge adjustment but he was falling for her. Hell, he’d fallen. Hard. “Why don’t we take this one day at a time, then?” he murmured, his gaze falling to her mouth. Though it was his instinct to take over, and the possessive urge with her was riding him hard, he held back. He wasn’t going to scare her off.

The flare of panic subsided and she smiled. “That sounds good.”

Turning toward her, he grasped her hips and tugged her onto his lap. They needed less talk and more naked time.

Grinning at him, she tugged her shirt off as she straddled him.

And after that, they didn’t talk at all for a while.

“You didn’t haveto sit out here the whole time.” Zamira tightened her robe around herself as she picked up her towel and T-shirt.

She’d decided to go for a late-night swim—and Dimitri had enjoyed watching. He was starting to understand how she kept up with her twins. She seemed to have unending energy.

“It was a nice show.” He grinned as he plucked the towel from her. He’d also wanted to stay out here in case of any security breaches. His house and property were locked down tight but he was still on high alert after that meeting with Ryba. He wasn’t sure if he trusted the guy to stay away. It was a fifty-fifty chance at this point and he couldn’t risk Zamira’s safety.

As they stepped back inside, he set the alarm automatically from his phone. When he started to put it away, it buzzed in his hand. It was ten, not obscenely late, but he never heard from any of his employees at this time of night.

“You feel like joining me in the shower?” Zamira asked as they stepped into his bedroom, already loosening her robe.

He’d moved her things into his room when it had been clear she’d decided to stay there. Right where he wanted her. He swept an appreciative gaze over her naked body as she dropped her robe and headed into his bathroom. He’d also noticed that she was a bit messy, the complete opposite of him.

“In a couple minutes,” he murmured.

She just gave him a cheeky grin and moments later he heard the water start. He read over the text from Viktor, frowned. Some of it was vague, but not enough to misunderstand.

R has pulled in a small crew for a job. He’s keeping it quiet. No idea if his relative knows about it. From the sound of it, he’ll be moving on it soon.

That…could actually be a good thing. If he made a big score, he’d have what he clearly wanted. Money. What’s the job?

Not sure. Yet. L has feelers out too.

Yeah, Dimitri did too, probably with the same people Lyosha and Viktor were in contact with. If he could figure out what the job was, he could contact law enforcement anonymously and get Ryba arrested. It might not solve his problem forever, but it would get Ryba locked up for a while and take the heat off Zamira. Thanks for the update.

He received a thumbs-up so he set his phone down, contemplating all his options. Some darker than others. There were certain lines he hadn’t crossed, but he realized that to keep Zamira safe he’d cross every single one.

Shoving that thought aside—for now—he started stripping. He wasn’t going to waste one more second not being inside Zamira. Things might not work out between them—her kids would be home soon and she might realize she didn’t want him complicating her life. She might decide he was too much work, so he was going to enjoy every moment he had with her until that moment happened.

Even as he hoped that time never came.
