“Of course I am.” Ulrich winked, and I wasn't sure at who. I resigned myself to leaving them to it and grabbed Will’s meager belongings and a few things I’d picked up for him around town. Ulrich took the bag from my hands. “We’ll get along just fine,” he reassured me. “It will be nice to have some company for a while.”
“Alright. Then I thank you with all my heart. And so does Donovan’s liquor cabinet. The damn thing cried at the thought of Will coming to stay with us.”
Ulrich laughed along with Will and helped me get him into the wheelchair, then I readied to leave them to it. I gave my uncle a kiss on the cheek. “Behave, Will.”
“Always do.” He threw a wave over his shoulder as Ulrich wheeled him up the pathway, and I could finally take a breath that didn’t hurt.
Between sorting and visiting Will, and Donovan having to deal with the fallout of getting rid of Gideon, we hadn’t spent much quality time together since that night.
With Will now settled, too far out for me to worry, and no more guilt after seeing the two men laughing together, I headed into Donovan’s cabin, which he continued to call our cabin, eager to find my guy.
It would soon be time to start packing up my life and putting down roots. The big move would come, but for now, I just wanted to snuggle with my mate.
I removed my jacket and threw it on the hook on the wall seeing Donovan pace the living room while talking on the phone. I headed off toward the kitchen so as not to disturb him, and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. I’d cook tonight. He’d done enough. And I pondered on what to make with my limited cooking skills.
Maybe takeout was a better idea?
Donovan entered the kitchen after ending his call, lighting up at the sight of me. “Is your uncle settled in?”
“He is. He’s Ulrich’s problem now.”
“Thank goodness for that.” He came closer for a kiss. “That was Kyran on the phone.”
“And?”
“He said Max has helped him come up with a solution for Everleigh’s punishment after she confessed all in seducing Luke for the information on you.” He frowned at the thought of one of his own selling us out in such a way. But I knew the truth of it and forced him to go easy on the kid.
“Luke didn’t stand a chance against Everleigh and her wiles,” I reminded him, “and you know it. He innocently told her what he found out from overhearing Grace. She did the rest. He thought he was helping you out with the lies she fed him. And I believe he did so while she was sucking on his—”
“Okay, okay.” Donovan put his hands up in defense. “I get it. And that’s the only reason why he got off so lightly. Doing extra hours at the garage and helping to fill in where needed across town for a few months will teach him not to confess town secrets while some bitch is sucking on his penis.” He rolled his eyes. “Beating him would work faster.”
“No beatings. Luke’s not the only wolf in this town who was drawn in by her sucking cock. You set the standard, dude.”
“Dude?” He took the bottle of water out of my hands and set it on the counter behind me with a predatory look in his eyes.
“Yep. But I’m intrigued. What’s her punishment?”
Donovan, his eyes never leaving mine, lifted the hem of his shirt, and tugged it over his head. “Max has arranged a marriage for her with someone in his pack. Her parents are eager for it since they’re not sure whether Kyran will snap her neck in the night with the way he keeps looking at her. Everleigh isn’t pleased about it though, and neither is her prick of a boyfriend, Jason. But Max has evoked an old law to push it through. She leaves tomorrow.”
“I’d say poor Everleigh, but that bitch sold out you and the townspeople. And if something isn't done about her, she won’t stop when it comes to you. She’s a bitch who just won’t quit. And I get it. You’re adorable.”
“I’m a predator and you’re calling me adorable?” He rolled his eyes, coming closer. “She’s no longer a problem to us. Or the town. She crossed a huge line going after a pack of the alliance. She’s lucky she’s still alive. But I don’t want to talk about her anymore.”
Hurriedly, he lifted my shirt over my head and I grinned. “Are you about to take advantage of me, Donovan Darman?”
“Hell, yes,” he growled, unbuttoning my jeans. He shrugged them down halfway then lifted me onto the countertop. Once my boots were gone, he shuffled the jeans down further and discarded them along with my underwear. “It’s been too long since I had my hands on you.”
He unsnapped my bra and let my boobs spill free, cupping a breast in his hand and flicking the nipple. I tried to think of something random to say, anything to slow down the heat bubbling up inside me.
“I need to go pack up my things soon,” I breathed. “Give my landlord notice. And I need to visit my bank. Withdraw some funds if I’m going to quit hunting and give this painting thing a go.”
He removed his jeans so we were both completely naked. “Keep your money.” His eyes flashed gold as his wolf came closer to the surface. “You’re mine, Savannah. I take care of what is mine.”
“We’ll debate that later.”
“Yes, we will.”
And that was enough talking. He pounced, feeding his hands into my hair and finding my mouth. I met him with eagerness, our tongues clashing. He fed his hand between my legs and stroked.
