But Tristain would live. She would make sure of it.
She shoved him back, a wave of concern swept over his features. But she sat up urging him back against the wall before straddling him. She moved him inside her once more, letting him fill her completely in every way. One hand pressed against the wall for support, the other went over his heart—that steady beat reassuring her of why she had to do what she was about to do.
She sat still for a moment, appreciating the connection, the way they fit together. Savoring that feeling one last time. And then she was chasing their end. Driving them to the edge as quickly as possible. Moving her hips the way he liked. Tracing her lips across the shell of his ear so he could hear how he wasdestroying her.
And when he came like she knew he would, she reached to the end of the bed, grabbing the knife he’d carelessly left there. There was no other way to prevent him from coming with her—unless he physically couldn’t go. She knew he’d hate her for taking away his choice. She already hatedherself for it.
“I love you,” she proclaimed before locking their lips together.
She plunged the dagger into his thigh, twisting it for maximum damage so that he wouldn’t be able to walk. And then she allowed herself to crash over the edge. She devoured his cries, his pain searing through her blood and ringing in her ears.
The slick, warm blood poured out of the wound and onto her foot. She had sunk it in deep with all the strength she could muster in this position. Assuring that she’d ruined his plans. Assuring that he’d feel anger and resentment when he looked at her. That he would be unable to deny that she’d chosen her revenge over him.
Breathless and weak, she stood and turned her back to him. He was cursing her as he tried to staunch the bleeding. She ignored him as she wiped the blood from her body and slipped back into her clothes. She didn’t even look back as she walked out the door, but she did make sure to swipe her sword and the armor Tristain had bought for her. She had a feeling she was going to need it.
