Nathan’s father brought serious danger back to Montana with him when he returned. Erin almost wished she hadn’t agreed to help. She had so much on her plate already, but now that she was in this with Nathan, she couldn’t turn her back on him.

He looked her up and down. “Are you hurt anywhere?”

“No, I’m okay. That was close, Nathan. So ... close.” Her voice shook.

“Come here.” He reached for her, but she stepped back.

“Please go check on the truck driver.”

“Will you be okay?”

She gave a subtle nod. “I’ll keep trying to call for help, though I hope someone else has already gotten through.”

Nathan left her and started hiking up the hill.

How much more will we have to go through before this is over?
