CHAPTER 45

LILY

Although everyone left soon after, I was content in enjoying a peaceful breakfast with Raiden by my side. He was a muscular guy and stacked his plate accordingly, the contents of which consisted of different types of meat; no doubt his wolf’s first choice. From what I'd heard, his wolf was huge. Much larger than most. I’d known Ray for years, yet never seen his wolf. Maybe later that day, I would ask him to accompany me on a run, especially since my own wolf was itching to be let out.

Out of the blue, a border patrol’s voice sounded in my mind, jerking me out of my thoughts and almost sending me flying off the chair, yelping at the sudden intrusion. Shadow Creek’s pack link. Raiden smirked, amusingly tilting his head towards me.

Alpha, Blade Rock is requesting to enter pack grounds, the patrol said.

I studied Ray as his eyes glazed over. Party? he asked, his voice echoing through my mind, sending a shiver down my spine.

The patrol’s voice responded almost immediately, seven, Sir. The Alpha, Delta and five other wolves.

Blade Rock? “Mat’s here?” I yelled out, unable to contain my excitement. I quickly realised my mistake when Raiden choked on the water he’d been sipping.

My eyes grew wide as water gushed from his mouth in uncontrolled bursts of coughing. A little even dribbled from his nose.

“Mat?” he hissed out, shooting a glare at me and wiping his face with the back of his arm.

A mixture of surprise and confusion slammed into me. “Uh-Alpha Mathew, of Blade Rock?” I asked hesitantly. Maybe I had it all wrong?

Raiden leaned back, pulling his eyes into thin lines. “Right, Mathew,” he said, clearly annoyed. “Friend of yours?”

“Uh, yes,” I swallowed uncomfortably. “I told you he saved my life, sort of.”

A hint of irritation flashed in Raiden’s eyes. Maybe I should be more careful with what I say around him, especially since being newly claimed.

“You did, but I guess I severely underestimated how familiar the two of you became in that short time.”

Was he judging me? I glared right back.

Alpha...? I heard the patrol’s voice once more.

Raiden groaned, pulling his eyes away from mine and dragged a hand through his hair.

Yes, let them in, he finally said, escort them to the formal boardroom and make sure they get something to eat.

I watched Ray as he forked the last piece of sausage into his mouth and washed it down with a large gulp of water. I couldn’t wait to finish up breakfast and go say hi to Mat. After our conversation ended so abruptly the night before, he must have been worried, explaining the unexpected visit.

Wait, how did he get here so fast? Axel had travelled almost three days.

I caught Raiden eyeing me suspiciously before he let out an unearthly growl under his breath. Shit, he must have felt my excitement through our link. This really was something I needed to get used to.

Smiling warmly. I rested a comforting hand on his shoulder, willing my love for him to spread through our bond. It seemed to calm his beast a bit, but I could sense that he was still very uneasy.

After a while, Ray stood up, waiting for me to join him.

“Ready to go and see your girlfriend?” I teased, tilting my head slightly and rolling my eyes. I knew he was on his way to meet with Tanya.

Raiden groaned, “soon to be ex-girlfriend.” I waved a lazy hand at him, dismissing his comment entirely.

Knowing that he was going to meet with her, alone, did not sit well with me, but I tried not to let it show on my face. The pestering feeling of jealousy was eating away at my insides, even though I knew it had to be done. Tanya was a beautiful woman, built to appease any man. More than that, I knew nothing about her. She could be a real slick seductress or a twisted psychopath.

Turning my face away from him, I tried to push the thoughts out of my mind and focus on something else. Remembering that Mat and his men were already here, I decided to head towards them for a distraction. Besides, Raiden needed some space to sort his relationship ‘problems’ out without me getting in the way.

He kissed me one last time, before heading out, his shoulders slightly sagging.

“I’ll see you soon. Be good,” he said before disappearing around the corner.

You too, the words formed in my mind, although I didn’t say it. Taking a deep breath and lifting my chin, I turned, walking in the opposite direction, heading towards the boardroom. Two sets of feet followed me from a safe distance. Guards. Raiden’s.
