Nate took a deep breath. “The products that we ship in—furniture, carpets, toys to name a few—is how we smuggle drugs into the country. The items are taken to the warehouse and sorted. Drugs are extracted and—”

“The warehouse is used as a front for the smuggling and drug business,” I finished, cutting him off.

“Yeah,” Nate agreed. “Pretty much.”

“So, the books were off last month and now the product that was supposed to be sold on the street is lite?” I asked, trying to make sense of it all.

“Correct,” Nate agreed. “What our supplier said would be in this shipment didn’t add up once everything was sorted and bagged.”

“How light was it?”

“A few pounds,” answered Nate.

“Oh.” A crease formed between my eyes. “That’s a lot.

“Yeah, and we can’t let this slide. Because if we do—”

“It’ll trickle over into our other ventures as well.”

“Exactly.”

For the first time in my life, I was beginning to see the big picture, everything that my father had been dealing with alone all these years, making me respect him even more than I had before. Now, it was my turn.
