Sailor nodded. “It’s true. That is the last thing she wanted to happen, for sure. But she’ll be fine. There are other owners who will be thrilled to have her run their resorts. Maybe not as big as The Benson, but enough to keep her challenged. It’s not that, though. There’s something else on her mind.”
“I don’t understand. I thought her job was everything to her.” Beau’s curiosity increased. If Sailor didn’t come to talk about the sale, then why was she here?
“Oh, yes, her job is everything to her. I just wanted to talk to you about something that is even more important to Alessandra. You, Beau.”
“Me?I’m not important to her at all, at least not anymore. Yesterday morning, after I was an idiot and made some really dumb comments, she made that very clear. And she also made it clear that she had no interest in seeing me again.”
Sailor rolled her eyes. “You two are damn stubborn! You’re both so worried about getting hurt that you retreat at the first sign of a problem. But let me tell you, I know that woman, Beau. You have reasons you think she wants nothing to do with you? She has reasons she thinks you want nothing to do with her. She loves you, and—” At Beau’s surprised look, Sailor emphasized, “Yes, I said it. She loves you. How do I know? Because her sadness in talking about the sale is nothing compared to how distraught she was talking about her fight with you. She’ll get over the sale, but I don’t think she’ll ever get over what she feels for you… if you’re too dumb to let her go, that is.”
“Is that what she told you?” Beau asked. Maybe there was some hope after all?
“Not exactly. Still, I know her. The question for you now is, what are you going to do about it?”
