“Ladies, please line up. Five on each course.”

I darted over to the first course, taking the center spot. The twin courses appeared to be identical, but the soil on this side seemed a little loose. I’d noticed it as I ran around the courses ahead of time. It might not matter, but anything could be an advantage.

Silvia lined up beside me and gave me a wink. “This oughta be fun, right, Wren?”

I gave a quick smile. “The best.”

“Where’s your friend?” Silvia asked, scanning the crowd. “The one who gets drunk at any opportunity.”

I cracked my neck and stretched out my calves. “What friend?”

Violet had joined Laurel and three of her minions on the other course.

Good riddance.

“Ah, I see,” Silvia said. “Not all friends are as trustworthy as they seem.”

“You got that right,” I replied.

“On my word, we will begin,” William said, edging closer for a better view. “Oh, one more thing I forgot to tell you. You’ll be able to use your wolf powers on this course.”

What the hell did he just say?!

“On your mark. Get set. Go!”

Girls lurched forward in their human form, staggering toward the obstacles. Yet some seemed to realize that their shifter powers were no longer blocked. The bracelet might have kept us in the area, but somehow, our powers had been returned.

Oh shit! It was on, now.

I closed my eyes, focused on the pull of the moon, found the swirling tendrils of magic that had been blocked since we’d arrived, and latched on.

I exploded into my wolf form and took off running.
