Page 42 of Win My Heart

While being a pro gamer has its perks—industry parties and events—none of them are fancy, so getting to go to a black tie event is a novelty. I make a mental note to go shopping for a dress.

After sorting out our plans, I ask Wade if he wants to watch a movie. I don’t know why I’m surprised when he says yes. Maybe it’s because this maybe date is lasting much longer than I expected. I feel like I’m pressing my luck.

“I’m curious to see what fills your Netflix list,” he teases as he picks up the remote and opens up the app on the TV.

“I’m not ashamed,” I tell him.

He shoots me a sideways grin. “We’ll see.” The service loads as he navigates to my “continue watching” list.

“Hmm. Let’s see.Bridgertonlooks old.”

“It’s a historical romance but it feels very modern, and it’s the best thing right now,” I reply.

He hums and moves on, then nods his head at show number two. “Schitt’s Creek. Now that’s a funny show. Johnny gets a bad rap.”

“It’s a go-to whenever I need a pick-me-up.”

“UnNatural. Oh, I’ve only seen the first season of that.Love is Blind. You like reality TV?” His sneer makes me giggle.

“Don’t judge me. It’s a solid show, and it proves that love really can be blind. It’s the only reality TV I watch. Move on.” I push his shoulder.

“The Wticher. Interesting.” He’s doing that thing where he studies me like he doesn’t really know me.

I shrug. “What? I could watch Henry Cavill fight bad guys and say ‘Fuck’ in his sexy monster-hunter voice all day long.”

Wade stares at me and then bursts out laughing. I join in and realize how open and honest I’m being. It’s different. I’m normally so guarded with him, but this is nice. I could get used to it.

“Tell me he isn’t the sexiest Geralt they could have cast.” I push him again because he’s still laughing.

Calming just a bit, he nods. “You’re not wrong. I don’t think anyone would argue that he’s one sexy man. Everything he touches is gold.”

“Exactly.” I cross my arms, happy that I proved my point, and turn back to the TV. “So what are we watching?” I look back at him when he doesn’t answer right way, and he’s biting his lip.

“I’m curious aboutBridgerton. I’m not saying I want to watch it, but I heard Link going on about how Ruby made him watch it. While it’s not my kinda show, I can’t deny that it sounds interesting.”

I fight back my smile. “For the record, Ruby did not make Link watch it with her. Link begged Ruby to do a rewatch so he could watch it and blame it on Ruby. You should know this already, but just about everything Link says is twisted up. He lives for romance and drama.”

“I know, I know. He used to watchGossip Girlall the time over at my house.”

I let out a laugh. “I believe it. Well, I’ll tell you the gist ofBridgerton, and if you want to watch an episode, your secret is safe with me.”

He nods and I give him a watered-down version of what to expect.

“But there is fighting? It’s not all dances and gossip?” He glances at the TV.

“Yeah, sure. Like maybe five scenes.”

He narrows his eyes at the TV.

“Would you rather watchThe Witcher?” I ask.

“So you can get all hot and bothered every time Geralt speaks?” He’s not looking at me, but I giggle. “You promise you won’t tell anyone about this?”

I lift my hand and place it over my heart. “Swear.”

He groans. “Fine, one episode.” I snag the remote out of his hand and click through to the first episode. It will be the third time I’ve watched the first season, but I’ll never tire of the Duke of Hastings.

We don’t even make it through the first fifteen minutes of the show before the first sex scene, and while Wade doesn’t say anything, it feels like the heat turns up twenty degrees in my apartment. Watching the viscount bang it out on the TV while sitting on the couch next to your crush feels a whole lot different than watching it by yourself, when it’s just another sex scene.
