There was clearly only one bedroom in the cabin. The couch we were sitting on was not nearly big enough for Colton.
Those beautiful green eyes practically burned into mine. "Julia, it really is safe here."
I nodded. "I know. Thank you."
"I've never felt this much for anyone before," he whispered, running a thumb along my cheekbone. "You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, and your sweetness, your light…" He shook his head. "I've never wanted anyone like this. But I swear I'll keep a professional distance if you want me to."
My mind was churning from three different tornadoes whirling inside me at once. The paranoia of being chased by unknown assailants who wanted information that I didn't have. The smaller fear of being so far from home, in an isolated cabin with a stranger.
Biggest of all was the raw, desperate arousal I felt whenever we were close. I already knew this wasn't simply an older man looking for a good time with a girl in her early twenties. We had been completely in sync with every conversation all day long. We clicked.
With a deep, slow breath, my mind became still. All I had to do was listen to my inner voice, like every yoga and meditation class had ever taught me.
"No distance," I whispered. "I want to be close to you."
Colton's arm slid around me as he kissed along the side of my throat. "It's a king-sized bed," he murmured. "May I hold you all night, Julia? There will be no safer place than in my arms."
I already knew that there would be a lot more than holding going on, but for the moment, I simply nodded.
"Yes."
