She nodded. "Yes. Is that okay?"

"Absolutely."

Her tongue darted across her lip just above my thumb. "Will you get in trouble at work if you don't check in?"

Snuggling her against my shoulder, I sighed. "To be honest, I had been intending to ask for a promotion soon. I would be perfect as Warren's second in command. But now…" I shook my head. "I don't know if I can stay with an agency where things aren't completely above board. I shouldn't have to go into hiding from the agency itself."

"Can you get a different job?" Julia looked hopeful.

"Maybe. I've always thought about teaching retail security. Many little shops don't have any policies whatsoever. Or I could live off my savings for a while and figure things out." I bounced her on my lap. "Hey, I could become a yoga instructor."

Julia tried to glare, but the corners of her eyes turned up in a smile. "Cheeky."

She didn't even realize she was flirting with me. "Yup."

Teasing Julia was going to be one of my favorite things to do over the next few days. I loved the way she wasn't afraid to tell me how she felt.

"Well, gorgeous, it's time for you to make a decision. Should I get blankets for the rickety, lumpy couch, or will you share the bed? I promise not to cross the center line unless you tell me to."

Her hands wrapped around the back of my neck, then she whispered, "Cross the line."

It was the first time in years that I truly felt a prickle of nervousness with a woman. We were completely falling in love already.
