Chapter 46

Hades

Charlotte put a strawberry cheesecake on the table and filled up my coffee mug again. Being the Luna of a bunch of hungry Wolves must have made her think she would have to feed me like one. “I’m actually pretty full, thank you though.”

“Nonsense, you should eat more. Especially once Ember shifts, you may not get a chance to eat much for a while.” I took a small bite of cheesecake, forcing it down. With a large gulp, I looked up at her concerned.

“Why do you say that?” Charlotte smiled as she plated herself a piece.

“Once I shifted, let’s just say I was a bit ravenous.” My eyes widened. I could remember all too well what Elea was trying to talk Ember into. Sure, Ember said she was ready now, but I didn’t to force it on her either. My cock was dying to be buried deep in her, but I can’t just tell that to her mother who is trying to fatten me up for a good mating. I pulled on the collar of my dress shirt as I cleared my throat.

“There is mating cabin, a few miles up Paradise Path. Some Wolves get a little carried away before their bonding, so I had Wesley and his father Odin build a house up the trail. No one would be able to hear you guys.” Charlotte snickered. My face automatically blushed thinking that that Ember’s own mother was not shy about talking about her daughter being deflowered.

“It’s natural; took me awhile to get used to the idea of being so open but it is what the goddess wanted right?” She chuckled. “Plus, you are mated to an Alpha Wolf. Who knows how long you will stay in that cabin.”

I internally groaned, I needed to get out of this house. This was too much to talk with the in-laws with no matter how grateful I would be towards her. Charlotte’s eyes darkened as she looked straight through me; she was being mind-linked.

“It’s started, she’s started shifting.” We both stood up, our chairs hitting the floor as we bolted out the door. I raced with Charlotte as she knew where they would be. I couldn’t automatically transport where Ember was since we haven’t bonded yet. Not running for long I saw Wesley hovering over Ember’s body who was seizing on the pack house steps.

“She’s moving too much; my touch is hurting her. Hades, get over here!”

I raced to the top of the steps and scooped her up in my arms. “It’s alright,” I cooed. Her back cracked as she let out a horrible cry. My own body began to hurt to see her in so much pain. “Pack doctor?” Panicked as I shifted my body back towards the pack house.

“No, she needs to be in nature,” Wesley spoke quickly. “Come we have a designated area for first time shifters, come.” Charlotte and Wesley grabbed hands and raced towards the woods while I gently rocked her in my arms. Her moans and whimpers didn’t go unnoticed as I tried to keep my lips to her forehead. The tingles still radiated on my face, and I prayed to Selene that Ember could feel them too.

Once we arrived, Ember’s brothers Dante, Hunter, and Steven stood in a circle. Steven looked uncomfortable while Dante watched as other Wolves approached. He let out a low growl and shifted while his clothes were still on.

“Son,” Wesley exclaimed as he put his hand on Dante’s large form. “It’s all right, she’s safe.” Dante’s wolf still didn’t cease as his hair stood up on end. “Get back,” Wesley yelled. “This will be a family affair. We appreciate the support, but this will be a tough shift.” Many Wolves nodded and kept their distance. Elders looked on in worry as they stayed behind the tree line.

Another crack of her thigh bone echoed through the forest as she screamed. Charlotte went to Ember’s side, cooing at her as she began to take off her clothes. My fingers wanted to rip Charlotte away, to keep her clothes on but shifting the first time, it would be best if she was bare. Dante growled at an unmated male that was late to the shifting and began to bark. “Leave us!” Wesley growled out and he left without as much as a whimper.

“It hurts!” Ember cried as she shielded her breasts from her family. My hand went to her face as I peppered small kisses on her cheeks. “You are so good, such a big Alpha. You can do this; you are going to shift into a beautiful Wolf.” I couldn’t help but let a few tears shed through lashes as I saw her spasm again. Her back was on the forest floor, her body exposed to the setting sun.

The first shift could last for hours, and it did just that for Ember. Once we approached the third hour, Wesley began to pace frantically. “Get the elders,” he begged Steven who laid next to Ember. Bones were breaking, fur was sprouting but only at a snail’s pace. Steven scampered off.

“Why not mind link, Wesley?” Charlotte asked worriedly.

“I can’t think straight.” Wesley pulled his hair as his hand went to Ember’s forehead. “Damnit!” He punched a tree next to him while splinters went flying. I hovered over Ember’s body. She was deathly still as the bones in her toes and fingers began to pop. “Ember,” I called for her, but she didn’t respond.

“You listen here, you don’t give up,” I yelled at her. “You push through that last barrier, and you will shift, do you hear me!? Elea! Do you hear me?” I yelled again as I shook her still body. White fur sprouted as she laid still. All over her body the snow white hair covered her. More bones popped, all the popping made me think there wasn’t anything left to break.

Ember’s jaw elongated; her ears stood on the top of her head. A tail emerged from behind her, and paws replaced her hands. The slow breathing became pants as a tongue lopped from her mouth. With eyes still shut, her eyebrows moved. A beautiful white wolf laid beneath me. Touching her fur I could still feel the sparks, knowing she was still mine.

Rolling off her, her family and I stood back to give her room to stand. “Ember, open your eyes,” I begged. Charlotte and Wesley held onto each other while slowly, her wolf’s body came to life. Bright mint-colored eyes looked around as her head perked up.

Standing on all fours, she was a large, and majestic animal. Her tail was fluffed to a perfect white as her eyes looked at the both of us. “Ember?” I whispered as I grew closer. Using her four limbs at the same time she walked towards me, and her head buried into my chest after I lowered myself to the ground. Rubbing her head all over me and licking up my neck I couldn’t help but sigh in relief.

“That’s our girl.” Wesley patted Charlotte’s back as he smiled. “You scared us there, Ember.” Ember looked at her family and back at me.

“Ember says she’s all right, just scared to turn back into a human.” Charlotte laughed as she held tightly onto Wesley. Ember licked me back and nuzzled into my neck.

“You did so good. I thought I lost you.” Ember snuffed and shook her head.

“It’s tradition for her to run with the pack after a shift, if you will allow it, Hades,” Wesley spoke. I laughed and gave Ember a rub on the head.

“Can’t mess with tradition now, can I?” Ember continued to nuzzle into me while Dante let out an enormous howl.

“They’re coming.” Hunter spoke and watched his parents go behind a tree to strip. Steven came up with the elders, but relief flooded their faces. “We were so worried,” one of the men spoke. “I’m glad she’s all right.” Everyone was taking the clothes. I was the most clothed guy here while I stood back and watched everyone shift. Ares and Vulcan had gathered as well to watch the spectacle.
