Suspicions started to arise within me as I closed my eyes. Both of their souls appeared right before me. Taking my hands, I placed one on the bottom and one on the top, making the perfect hand sandwich.
Imagining their souls pulling out of their bodies and touching one another, intermingling their lives and their bodies and heart, I felt the warmth of my hands around them. Once the warmth started to fade, glancing at my friend, Loukas's eyes widened in hysteria. His toothy grin landed on Nora, who was only blushing furiously.
"Mate," he panted. Nora bit her lower lip and could only spout out a single word.
"Hi." She gave a little wave while I stood up to provide them with their time. Hades said I was too nosey, and I needed to provide mates their space. I would want the same, I suppose. It appears the Sphere is to be used for long distances, so Selene does not have to travel.
My bare feet bounded across the floor as I entered the cafeteria. Most of the Wolves had departed, and Hades sat waiting patiently with his body leaning on the cafeteria tables with his elbows. "Have a nice chat?" His voice was annoyed, and I squinted my eyes in complaint.
"What is that supposed to mean?" I questioned.
"Have fun chatting with Loukas? Alone?" I gritted my teeth, I wasn't one to get mad at the God of the Underworld, but if he was going to be this possessive all the time, then he had another thing coming.
"You listen here, devil!" I waved my finger in front of his face. "I was working. I matched Loukas with another Wolf. Their souls must have subconsciously led me right in there. Now you don't have to worry anymore about Loukas. You don't have to figure out some lame mission for him to run away and never come back to the Underworld. You act as if I would leave you for a demon. Do you not trust me?" Hades sat back with his mouth agape.
"I don't trust him!" he retorted back. His hand trembled to the kitchen door. "He has acted like he has wanted you since the first day!" He rebuked.
"And what did I tell you since I knew about mates and our bond? That I would only want you!" My face filled with rage while I stomped my foot. "I think some time alone will do us good before the binding ceremony tomorrow. You have to realize that I do have a job too, you know. I'll be helping Selene, and I'm a goddess now. I can overpower any demon or angel. Once you get it through your thick skull, you wouldn't act like a cattle prod was up your ass!" I snapped.
Mom and dad were staring me down at the doorway. Dad had dropped his werewine on the floor. "I'm going to sleep in my old room. By the time I see you down that aisle, your possessiveness, and untrustworthiness of me better improve."
"Ember, please." Hades' hand went out to grab mine. “Don't leave me tonight." I growled. Elea was on my side with this one. Just because he was the male, some god didn't mean I had to agree with everything he said. This would be good for him.
"Goodnight, Hades." I gave him a kiss on the forehead and sashayed out the door as I felt the hurt and disdain in his emotions. My heart shriveled as the weight of his sadness fell on me.
This might be harder than I thought. Who was I kidding? I couldn't last a whole night. The anger in his soul thickened around mind each step I stepped away from him. Pricks of fire tickled my arms like he was trying to pull me back.
"Are you sure you should do that?" Mom's voice cooed at me. "Maybe the hormones are pushing you a little far." Her fingers went around my shoulders to pull me close. "Hades is reacting to the bond, the pregnancy, and all the stress that comes along with it. It isn't wise to provoke a god."
Growling, defeated, I folded my arms. "I know Hades, he won't stay away. I just needed an hour to myself," I mumbled and walked to my childhood home. God or not, that shouldn't be a reason why I shouldn't voice my opinion or have to explain every move that I make.
