Nikolay had finished his meal, and the waitress, with a sour expression on her face, was currently explaining to Catalina that her meal had been paid for.

Catalina glanced our way before looking back down at her table.

She wrote something down in her notebook, tore off the page, and handed it to the waitress. Then she left the diner. We watched her like three hungry wolves watching a little lost piggy.

A few seconds later, the waitress came to our table with the bill and the piece of paper Catalina had handed her. I ignored the bill and pulled out several hundred-dollar bills from my wallet, putting them on the table. Nikolay got to the note first.

He glanced at it and laughed. Damien and I shared a look.

Nikolay handed us the note and I took it in.

Scrawled in neat, girly handwriting were two words.Thank you.

I laughed, along with Damien.

The littlekotyonokwouldn’t be thanking us any time soon.

Damien stood up first. I followed, then Nikolay as we walked out of the diner. Catalina was only halfway across the parking lot, getting to her car. I looked around.

Not a single soul to be found.

It was time.
