Tonight would be the last night he spent breathing.
“When?” I asked. No doubt the reason why he took so long to get back to the room was because he was planning for Catalina’s escape.
We could take care of ourselves, but Catalina couldn’t.
That was okay.
I was beginning to realize there would be no way in hell I would ever let any harm come to her.
“In one hour,” Mikhail answered softly, so as not to wake her up.
He looked down at her sleeping form. There was a slight furrow between her brows. Even like this, peace evaded her.
“What happened?” he asked.
I shook my head. “Later. Right now, tell me how you want this to play out.”
A fire burned bright in Nikolay’s eyes. He’d never liked Petrov and he had been looking forward to this day for a long time.
And after spending some time here in this house, with the little worm, I was fucking itching to get out and bring Catalina home with us … for good.
* * *
I moved around the house, sensing other shadows following me before they expanded out, cans of gasoline in their hands.
Mikhail was in charge of getting Catalina out of here while Nikolay hunted Petrov, and twenty of my men and I were moving around the house, dousing it with gasoline.
I would be joining Nikolay soon.
I caught Maxim, mybrigadier, and he nodded, signaling that it was done.
Perfect.
“Bar all the entrances to the house. No one gets in or out.”
He nodded, and I walked inside the house.
Most of the guests had left for the night, and those who stayed behind would be joining Petrov in hell.
It didn’t take me long to get to Petrov’s bedroom.
I could hear his crying before I even entered the room, and I relished the sight of a pathetic man kneeling by his bed in his underwear, Nikolay standing in front of him, death blazing in his eyes.
His eyes found mine right away. “Damien, what is the meaning of this? Your watchdog has gone crazy. He came into the room and called me a traitor. I am loyal to you,Pakhan.”
“Is that why you’ve been talking to Agnello?”
His eyes widened a fraction of a second before he carefully masked his expression to one of confusion and anger.
“I did no such thing. I fucking hate the Agnello clan. Which was why I don’t understand why you didn’t kill Agnello’s whore of a daughter when you had the chance. She’s going to turn on you one of these days and—”
His cries filled the room. It took me a second to realize Nikolay had cut him with his knife. The blade was currently toying with the hole he made on his chest.
“You don’t think I have the insurance you kept on him?” I asked over the cries.
His eyes widened in surprise before they gave way to anger. He knew he was a dead man. There was no use in denying anything.
“You bastards. You looked through my safe!”
