Malika

Happy wedding day, baby.

Ismiledatmyhusband’s sweet words.

Happy wedding day to you, handsome.

I got a surprise for you.

I’ve seen it already

lol not that. Not JUST that

I responded with a smiley face.

The big day was here, and I was overjoyed. It’s funny; even though we’d already been married a few months, it felt like a real wedding day. Maybe because I loved him, now. I had fallen in love with him, so this was kinda like the actual wedding. The other one was just…practice.

Jaz, my maid of honor, of course, was buzzing around doing wedding planning duties as well. Luna was behind me styling my hair, and Bianca was in front of me beating my face.

Other than that, I was all alone.

I was done being sad about it, though. I’d done enough of that since this whole thing started. I was ready to just be happy for a change.

It still hurt, though. I couldn’t lie to myself about that.

“Alright, we’re an hour away,” Jaz announced as she swept into the room. Her pale pink gown was beautiful against her dark brown skin.

“Girl, you look so beautiful!”

She walked over to me and inspected my hair and makeup. “Thanks. Where’s her lashes?”

Bianca sucked her teeth. “I got ‘em. I’ma do ‘em last.”

“Okay. I told you, her eyes are hooded. You gotta use the smaller ones—”

“Bitch, I know what I’m doin’!”

They all laughed, so that meant the girl was hella cool with Jaz. I took a deep breath, finding myself nervous all of a sudden.

This was really happening.

There was a knock at the door, and Jaz lifted the bottom of her dress so she could jog over to it. Jaz opened the door and gasped, so of course I looked over.

“Special delivery!” She came toward me, a pretty blue box in her hands.

“Ooh, Tiffany!” Luna announced. “Something blue and something new.”

I wasn’t a fashionista by any means, but I knew what Tiffany meant, especially since Beyoncé did a campaign for them. So, mission accomplished for the marketing team.

“What is it?”

“Open it.” Jaz set the box in my lap.

“This must be the surprise Kari was talking about.”

Inside was a gorgeous pearl necklace and earrings. The girls oohed and ahhed, but I just stared in surprise and gratitude that I had a husband who liked to spoil me like this.
