If Ashton were safe, we never would have been held at gunpoint today.

“Why can’t we see Aunt Ivy?” Ashton asks. He shifts to sit beside me on the bed, but he’s still clingy, his hands on my arms and hair like if he lets go, I might disappear.

“She’s at her house, and we’re at our new house. Remember how she used to live in another apartment?” I ask.

Ashton shakes his head no.

He was considerably young when Ivy moved in with us. I shouldn’t be surprised that he doesn’t remember. She’s been bailing my ass out since I got pregnant. Well, her and Jocelyn.

“We didn’t always live together. I expected that she’d move out first, though,” I say and press a soft kiss to Ashton’s temple. I never thought we’d move out and leave her behind.

And I wouldn’t have expected that it would have been because I married the man that knocked me up.

Not in a million years would I have bet that I’d have married the stranger.

Even if he is cute.

And sexy.

Not to mention great in bed.

But that one time can’t ever happen again. We need to find a way out of this place, away from Aurielo. Because living with him and married to him, we’ll never be safe.
