“We better get out of here before we never leave. We’re insatiable.”

“I have nowhere to go,” Dominik tells me, and I scoff.

“Of course, you do. I’ve got a hotel room, and you’re not leaving my side.” I step back and push the door closed before rounding the car and jumping in the driver’s seat.

“What about your Harley?”

“I’ll have Jamie come get it.” I toss my hand out in a half-wave as I start the engine. I missed this car.

“Okay… What about after tonight?”

“Is asking questions part of… this?” I wave my hand again, looking at him out of the corner of my eye as I pull down the road taking us out of the cemetery.

“Well, yes. Mainly honesty, but I have to ask questions to get the honest answers I need.”

“That’s intuitive,” I ponder as I turn onto Seventh Street in the direction of the hotel. “I’m going to struggle,” I tell him honestly. “But I will try—I promise you that.” I shoot him a glance. He’s staring out the window, taking in the buildings like it’s the last time he’ll see them.

“That’s all I need—your effort and you.” He grabs my hand and interlocks our fingers. I tighten my grip when I feel the scars on the back of his hand. A small smile pulls at the corners of his lips as he rests his head against the window, never taking his eyes off the landscape.

“You’ve got it for as long as you want it.”

I’ve never spoken truer words in my life.

He gave himself to me without hesitation, and now it’s my turn, no matter the outcome.
