Chapter 31

Dane

Iwasjustleaving the field, and just about to head to the changing room, but then Fiona was on the field with her hands on her hips as if she owed the world. I didn’t care what Daxon said, she was so fucking stuck up that every time I saw her, the only thing that I saw was spoiled little rich girl. I wanted to head to the showers and get changed, but I could tell by the fire in Fiona’s eyes as I tried to avoid her and head to the showers, that she had other ideas.

“Your fat girlfriend is a liar and a thief!”

I shook my head, because I had no idea what she was talking about.

“Lisa Grant or so she calls herself is really Anna-Lisa Schwatz!”

Stuart pipped in. “I’ve heard that name before.”

She pointed at him, her blue eyes lit up and for a second, I thought that they’d turned black. But then I blinked again and realized that it was still blue. I’d been watching one too many re-runs of Supernatural that my imagination was getting the better of me and I thought that she was one of the demons.

I turned to the side and I noticed that Penelope was filming the conversation, that made me even more anxious and I wanted to get the hell out of here.

Before I had the chance, Tanya who was standing beside Penelope asked, “What did you say?”

Fiona repeated what she’d just said, and then Tanya’s face went a bright red, as if she’d turned so angry that steam was going to come out of her head.

The camera moved towards her. “I told her about my family and what they’d been through and she must have been laughing about me.”

It was then, right then that I remembered where I’d seen Lisa or Anna-Lisa as Fiona had said before. Her dad was part of a scam. One that had left a lot of veterans penniless. Shit, it was in the news for weeks. I remembered seeing her on the TV, I think they were together one time and they flashed her face across the screen. There was no denying or even forgetting those eyes.

“How the hell did you find out?” I asked Fiona.

“The purse,” she said proudly while patting it.

Tanya had tears in her eyes, but then she looked at the purse and said, “That’s not the one that Lisa sold you.”

Fiona waved at Penelope to put the camera down and they were on their way. Tanya was half interested and followed her, but it was clear that she only had one thing on her mind. To find Lisa.

Then, she held out her phone and said, “Lisa’s messaged me. Good. I need to tell her something. First that Fiona clearly stole her purse. Second that I want her out of our room. Like yesterday.”

I decided to forget showering, but I had to get out of my clothes. Shit. I would have to be quick. I wasn’t sure what they planned to do, but I knew that it wasn’t going to be pretty. There was no way that if I sent a message or even called Lisa that she would reply. I had to go and see her, but time was against me. Maybe if I called David he could get there on time.

I shook my head at the idea of it. I wanted to protect Lisa, but doing that would mean risking it all. It wasn’t fair on my family. I had to put them first.
