Instead, she offered her hand, “I think what you said before about pretending is the only way forward, and even better when you all invite me to the Valentine Dance. Shit, I can see Kurt’s face now. Yes, that would make it even better. Us ending up as Queen and King of the dance.”

“You want to go to the senior dance with us? It’s only three months away?” I raised an eyebrow, wondering if she really wanted it or she wanted something more.

“Valentine!”

I stretched out my hand and shook hers. It was then that she gazed on the empty plates and asked, “So, we having a refill or what?”

I laughed. “You drive a hard bargain Jenny Hampton. Same or something different?”

“Nah, exactly the same. Just the way I like it!”

* * *

Jennyand I had been messing around in the kitchen, clearing up and teasing each other. I didn’t know what we really agreed on, but I had a feeling she was thinking the same thing. Rules. There had to be rules with this kind of thing, but I couldn’t think what they would be.

“So, how do we begin?” I asked, once we were in the living room flicking through the channels and trying to decide what to watch. Neither of us was in the mood for studying.

“Rule number one, when you guys ask me to the dance, it has to be a big ordeal.”

“Damn, you’ve got it all figured out.”

She shook her head. “Not really, but I want it to look official like we’re all together and you can’t get enough of me.”

“Like some sort of secret fantasy.”

She chuckled. “One all girls dream of.”

“Right, but Prent would have to do his big asking after school seeing as we don’t all go to the same school.”

She clapped her hands. “I can just imagine Kurt’s face. God, he’s going to hate us so much.”

The excitement in her voice made me know this was all about Kurt and nothing else. Shit, it was my idea, but something deep inside of me was disappointed. When did I get so caught up with the idea of being fake with Jenny? It rattled me up the wrong way.

I wanted to be real.

I couldn’t tell her, and neither of my brothers had said the same, but the way they acted around her made me think it was real for them too.

She was talking about how we could ask her out to the Dance, things which had been done in the past and had become the talk of the hallway.

“And no telling your buddies. We need this to be as real as possible, otherwise it won’t work, and we’ll look stupid.”

Rather, we would look stupid. We had reputations. Ones we didn’t flaunt around the school, but there was always some girl wanting to get with one of us, even at times both Trent and I. Something we never did in the past, but with Jenny we had broken all our rules.

“Well, you only have one friend, so we don’t have to worry about her talking.”

“Hey!” she said as she pushed a cushion in my face. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t even see it coming.

I laughed as I took the cushion and placed it neatly on the sofa.

“But it’s true. You do!”

She grabbed another cushion and giggled.

“It doesn’t mean I want it thrown in my face. Sorry that I’m not miss popular. Not like you guys.”

This time, I managed to grab the cushion as she threw it at me. We both sat looking at each other for a brief second. I knew anytime now, someone could come home, but I didn’t care as I leaned against her, and she didn’t fight back.

Jenny could feel the heat as I rested on her with a bulge in my pants. She was mine for the taking, and there was no resistance at all.
