She lays back and sighs. “I didn’t tell you before because I wasn’t sure, but…I had a scare.”

I turn and sit cross legged to face her. “What kind of scare?”

She gives me a knowing look. “Dan…” I say quietly.

“I’m not. Don’t worry, it was a false alarm. I tested this morning,” she says quickly.

Maverick better not choose this moment to freak out.

“So…. who was the umm...”? I stammer with my question. It’s hard to talk about this with Maverick tucked away in the closet.

“Everything’s fine, and that’s over.” She waves her hand in the air.

She is acting like it’s no big deal, but I can see it in her eyes that there is a lot more to the story.

“I’m sorry sister. Do you need me to do anything?” I ask and reach for her hand.

She smiles. “A little shopping trip couldn’t hurt.”

I laugh, “Sounds good. Let me get myself ready and we can make a day of it.”

“Thanks T.” She sets up and kisses my cheek. “I love you ya know?” She says as she stands from my bed.

I grin. “I know. And I love you too.” I walk over and open my door. “See you downstairs in a bit.”

She walks out but turns back around. “You look different.” Her eyes trail over me. “You're practically glowing.”

Oh shit.

“I got a new moisturizer. I guess it’s working.” I shrug.

She winks and skips down the stairs.

I shut the door and slump back against it. Maverick barrels out of the closet, sending clothes and hangers flying out everywhere. His eyes are angry, and his nostrils are flaring.

“I’ll fucking kill Dice,” he growls.

“Stop. You can't react. You are not even supposed to be in here with me. If you say anything she will want to know how you found out.” I reach up and grip his face with my hands. “Please. Promise me you won’t say anything. She said it was over anyway.”

His eyes soften a fraction as he looks at me. He sighs and pulls away. “I promise.” Then he mumbles curse words under his breath.

The nausea has simmered now. The anxiety of being exposed is starting to wear on me. I hate having to sneak around.

“I'll get dressed and go down, then you can slip out.” I suggest as I grab a sundress from the now disarrayed closet.

He leans back on the dresser and watches me put it on. “I can’t believe I just let you stuff me in a closet.”

I giggled. “It was better than out the window.”

He laughs and catches me by the waist when I walk by to grab my shoes.

He kisses my neck. “Did you have fun last night?”

I smile and tilt my head, so he has more access to my skin. “I did.”

“I told you I’d make it worth it.” He smirks.

I roll my eyes. “You are so cocky.”

He slaps my butt cheek as I head for the door. As always, he gives me my daily warning. “Be good, baby.”
