Logan stayed out of sight for the rest of the day. But sitting across from him at dinner was beyond awkward, with his blatantly lusty eyes on my girlfriend. It’s so clear that he’s in love with her. I can’t believe she couldn’t see it all this time.

A wave of relief flows in at sunrise, knowing he’s leaving today.

As I turn the corner in the passage, I find the front door open, and Cassie is standing on the steps.

I continue outside just as Logan gets into the waiting car. He barely waves to Cassie before the driver takes off.

It’d be a lie to say I’m sad about his departure, but it does suck to see my girl upset.

Cassie releases a lengthy sigh and hugs herself, watching the gates close after the car exits.

I drape my arm around her to offer comfort. “All right?”

She shrugs. “I hate that Logan’s hurt. He’s always been there for me. A great friend. But we both needed to be honest.”

“He’ll come around when he’s ready.”

“Maybe,” she mutters, leaning into my side. It’s a relief to no longer worry about anyone seeing us.

I kiss her forehead and ask, “How about doing something to take your mind off it?”

She looks up at me. “Like what?”

“Indoor rock climbing?” I suggest with a wiggle of my brows.

Palpable interest brightens her eyes. “I’ve done that before. It’s fun.”

“It sure is. I’ll text our friends. Get ready.”

Once our group finishes prepping, we make our way to the wall with an employee. While a couple finishes their climb, she details techniques for a safe activity and ensures our gear is on correctly.

“Cass, let’s go together since it’s been a while for you.”

“Okay.” She looks up at the high wall with intrigue.

Inching closer, I assure her, “Don’t be nervous. I got you.”

That pulls a sweet smile out of her. “I’m not nervous. I’m eager to get started.”

“All right now,” Michelle chuckles.

Nichole sways her hands around to warm up. “Let’s see who’s the fastest climber.”

Mark sputters a cocky sniff. “You know it’ll be me. I killed it last time.”

We all snort at him.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself,” Cassie bravely hits back. She always did like a challenge when we were kids.

Mark squints at her and jokes, “You’re a beginner, Cassie. Don’t push it.”

She raises her chin high. “Never underestimate a Radcliff.”

“That’s right.”

We bump fists in agreement.
