Trinity waited for Emmett to follow his parents, but he didn’t. Instead, he sat on the pool patio, staring into her eyes with kindness and understanding.
He had a sweet soul, and she found herself wanting to lose herself in his arms. No. It was more than desire. It was a need that she felt in every muscle. It took over every thought. She couldn’t shake it.
But she needed to.
Suddenly, he took her chin with his thumb and forefinger. Her breath caught. His warm mouth brushed over hers in a hot kiss, sensation exploding across her lips in a fiery blaze. Her toes curled as she gripped his shoulders.
It had been a long time since a man had made her feel as if she were the center of the universe.
She pressed her hand to the center of his chest. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.
“For what?”
“I can’t do this.” The urge to race off to her room was almost unbearable, but she resisted. She held her ground and decided she would speak her truth. “You’re a good man, and I like you. Maybe if—”
He pressed his finger over her lips. “No need to say anything else. I shouldn’t have done that.” He stood.
“I don’t mean to hurt you.”
“You haven’t.” He smiled. “Melinda’s in the kitchen if you need anything, and I’m a text away.” He took her hand and kissed it. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” With that, he turned on his heels and strolled across the patio and into the house as if he hadn’t a care in the world.
She groaned.
Emmett was one of a kind, and as the heat from his lips dissipated, a pang of regret filled her heart.
