“I know! And the other therapists adore her so really, they’ll just need to replace me!”
“No one can replace you, luv!” Babette said as she walked in and placed several folders on Maddie’s desk.
“What are these?” Maddie asked.
“Heather already texted some therapists that she went to school with and they sent over applications. I printed them out and wanted your input on them.”
“Already? I mean, we just finished the meeting like…fifteen minutes ago!”
“What can I say? She’s fast.” And with a shrug, Babette waved and left the room.
“See?” Maddie said. “Efficient.”
“So what does this mean time-wise?” Daniel asked.
She sighed. “I honestly don’t know. I’m hoping things will move swiftly but between the doctor’s appointment tomorrow, and then having to reach out to my accountant and attorney and finding a real estate agent for the house…”
“Why don’t you let Maddie and I talk about this and I’ll call you guys tomorrow after the doctor's appointment?”
“Sounds good,” Xander said. “And congratulations, Maddie. On everything. I’m sure the girls are going to be thrilled to know you’re moving here.”
“And I can’t wait to see them all again!”
It took longer than Knox thought possible to get his partners off the call, but once they finally did, he cupped Maddie’s face in his hands and kissed her.
“Well, that’s one hurdle, huh?” he asked breathlessly a minute later.
Licking her lips, she nodded. “I think I’m still a little in shock.”
“Don’t be. This is just confirmation that we’re doing the right thing.”
“I think so too.”
Carefully, Knox stood and placed Maddie on her feet. “How about we go and celebrate?”
“Oh…I don’t know. I’m afraid to jinx anything.”
“Jinx it? How?”
She shrugged. “I just don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. Why don’t we just go to the grocery store and get something to make on the grill?”
He still didn’t understand her logic, but…he went along with it.
