Knox thought they’d still be married. That was huge. And as much as they had been talking about so many things, they hadn’t particularly talked about that in a while.
Maybe it was time.
Glancing toward the French doors that led out to the deck, Maddie spotted him and wondered if tonight would be the right time for that conversation.
Only one way to find out…
“Are you…you know…interested in maybe…,” Daisy began hesitantly. “I mean…have you thought about…?”
Lea smacked her arm again. “Again, that’s a little personal and you need to stop it.” Then she smiled at Maddie. “How do you feel about frosting?”
This time Josie was the one doing the smacking. “Lea! How is that not personal? Sheesh!”
Maddie looked at all three of them in total confusion. “Um…how is frosting personal?”
Lea smiled triumphantly. “Do you have a favorite flavor? Are you a chocolate girl? Strawberry?”
This was kind of weird, she thought, but considering that Lea was a baker she figured she was just making conversation. “Chocolate frosting would be my favorite, but if anyone ever made a mint chocolate frosting, that would definitely be my first choice.”
“Ooo…we haven’t had a lot of requests for that!” Lea replied. “I’ll have to make you some.”
“You mean…like for a cake or cupcake?”
“Actually,” Josie said as she glanced around to make sure the guys were still outside. “It’s more like…for personal enjoyment.”
Frowning, she stared back at her. “Yeah, um…I’m still not sure what that means.”
“It’s our go-to stress snack,” Daisy explained. “And…if you’re adventurous…it’s also a lot of fun to use in the bedroom. If you know what I mean.” She gave an exaggerated wink before breaking out in a fit of giggles.
“Oh…that’s why…”
“That’s why I said it was personal,” Josie finished for her. “But if you’re interested, we can send some over the next time you’re in town.”
“Um…”
“Trust me, Knox will love it,” Daisy said confidently. “They all do.”
Maddie looked over her shoulder at the guys and wasn’t sure what to say, but…
“Well, if the guys all like it, then I guess I should try it,” she said and was instantly embraced by her new friends.
“Yay!” they cheered.
“So you’re telling me that Josie and the girls sent you a flyer about SEAL Security?” Knox asked incredulously. It was after eleven; everyone was long gone and they were in bed after making love. And this bit of news was mildly alarming.
Beside him, Maddie nodded.
“But…why? How did they even know about you?”
She laughed. “Knox, seriously? Guys gossip just as much as girls do, and apparently Xander and Daniel told Josie and Daisy about it.”
“Shit.” He flung his arm over his eyes because he remembered the day he had finally admitted to his friends about his marriage.
“Knox?”
“Hmm?” He didn’t look at her because he was still trying to wrap his head around the fact that his two best friends were a bunch of gossip hounds who ratted him out to their wife and girlfriend.
“Do you really think we’d still be married if things didn’t…you know…happen the way they did?”
