ChapterThree

“In the end we only regret the chances we didn't take.”

Unknown

Maddie had a brief second of confusion at what was happening before she was completely and unashamedly on board with kissing Knox.

God, she’d always loved kissing him and as they both frantically clutched at each another, she realized she’d never been kissed like this by any other man. Only him. Only Knox. This was only going to complicate things, but she didn’t care. Hell, she’d been brave enough to seek him out, bold enough to confront him when he was only wearing a towel, so it only seemed right that she was brazen enough to kiss him like he was vital to her very existence.

Which…if she were honest, he was.

She just could never admit it out loud.

But like this? When it was all heat and need and tongues and wet and delicious? Um, yeah. She’d gladly show him like this how much she missed him…needed him…wanted him.

Damn him.

It shouldn’t be like this and part of her wondered if maybe she’d just spent years building things up in her head—building him up. The “what ifs” and “what could have beens” took on a life of their own, and for all she knew, they never would have made it.

But what if we had?

Maddie willed her inner voice to shut the hell up right now so she could focus on the feel of Knox’s arms around her, the clean scent of his skin, the heat of his body…it was sensory overload and she was loving every second of it.

Her hands raked up into his hair and she practically had to get up on tiptoes to do it, but she was rewarded with a very masculine growl from Knox. His own hands traveled downward and cupped her ass right before he lifted her and turned to press her against the wall.

Okay, loving this…

With her legs wrapped around his waist and his body pinning her in all the right places, Maddie let out a needy sound. Her hands gripped his hair and she was trying to pull him even closer, but the only way he could get any closer was if they tore off their clothes.

And she wasn’t against that idea one bit.

It actually made a lot of sense.

They needed to do this. It was all part of the closure thing. If they had this one night together, then she was fairly certain she could move on with her life and finally put this whole chapter behind her.

She just wasn’t sure how to convey that to Knox.

Or maybe she didn’t have to because he was suddenly grinding against her in the most erotic and delicious way. They’d always been in sync with each other and even though they were too young to fully understand the physical part of their relationship—or have the maturity to appreciate it—Maddie had a feeling they’d be downright explosive right now.

It was in that moment that she decided to embrace this confident version of herself and finish going after what she wanted.

Breathlessly, she broke the kiss. Knox’s mouth instantly went to her jaw and her throat and she was loving that on a whole other level. But with her hands still clenched in his hair, she panted, “I don’t want to leave.”

“No one’s asking you to go,” he huskily countered.

Shamelessly, she moved against him. “Not that the wall doesn’t have its perks, but…maybe…oh, that’s good…maybe we can move this somewhere…”

He gently bit her throat before growling, “I like the way you think.” Then he was on the move with her still wrapped around him. They were walking—well, sprinting—up the stairs and in the blink of an eye, she was on her back and Knox was covering her body with his.

And…oh…this was so much better than the wall. Sosomuch better…

Maddie kept waiting for her inner voice to get loud and tell her this was a mistake, but it didn’t. Then she waited for Knox’s inner voice to maybe tell him this was a mistake. But it didn’t.

Or…if it did, he was ignoring it.

The kiss was wet and untamed, and then…over.

What the…?
