“She was killed.”

She didn’t need to say it was at her father’s hand. The look on her face said it all.

“I’m sorry for your loss.”

“It was my fault. I should have been there. Should have stopped him. I didn’t even go to the funeral because I was afraid of what he would do. I left her alone with him for all those years. I figured the least I could do was come back as a vampire and take care of what should have been done ages ago.”

Those were the last words he expected to come out of her mouth. To become a vampire to protect herself was one thing, but he couldn’t deny vicious was a good look on Flora.

“I won’t let him hurt you,” Draven vowed without an ounce of hesitation.

“I know,” she whispered.

Draven squeezed her hand, rubbing the back of hers with his thumb. “None of it was your fault Flora. You were a child. It wasn’t your job to save yourself let alone your mother. You aren’t to blame.”

Flora didn’t acknowledge his words. A single tear fell down her face and she pulled her hand from him and shifted the car into drive and pulled back on the highway. Mateo and Kade followed behind them.

With every new fact he uncovered, he found Flora was so much more than he expected. He wanted to keep peeling back each of her guarded layers and figuring out what made her tick. Because for the first time in a very long time, he was intrigued by a woman for more than what she had to offer him between her legs. Which was dangerous for a man like him. Especially since he wanted her to keep her mortality. And that meant that eventually, she’d leave him too.
