I laugh out loud at the memory of our first kiss. Becca was getting annoyed that it was taking me so long to work up the courage to kiss her so she took it upon herself to ask mewhat was taking so long. It was completely Becca and perfect for our first kiss. Now that I think about it, Jackson is probably right. We were young, I was nervous and we weren't fighting anything. It was still an amazing kiss, one I remember to this day.
“Yeah, you know Becca, it was definitely a memorable experience with her.”
We both laugh at the thought of her eccentric personality.
“I miss her too, dude. We all lost someone special that day. I promise I would tell you if I thought you were doing anything wrong.”
“I know you would. I appreciate it, man.”
“Hey, I have to get going. I just got paged to the ER. I'll talk to you later.”
“Go save some lives. I'll talk to you soon.”
I hang up the phone just as I am pulling into the driveway. When I walk through the door, I smell the dinner simmering on the stove which makes my mouth begin to water. Honestly, where did this woman learn to cook so good?
“Hello?” I shout as I put my things down and kick off my shoes.
“We’re over here,” Riley shouts from the family room.
I walk their way and find them on the ground, Harper between Riley’s legs, while she holds up a book. Harper is grabbing at the book trying to eat while Riley tries to turn the page.
“Are you trying to eat that book, Harper?” I ask as I join them on the ground.
“She was enjoying the pictures in the beginning but I think I’ve lost her attention.” Riley hands the book to Harper who puts it into her mouth immediately.
“Something smells amazing, like usual.” I grab Harper and give her my usual kisses on her chubby little cheeks. I haven’t shaved in a couple of days so my beard is tickling her which earns me a big giggle.
“I made some Italian wedding soup. I know it’s a warm day but I was craving it, and thought I could prepare it during her nap and let it simmer the rest of the day.”
She goes to get up but I grab her arm, pulling her towards me to give her a kiss. I have been thinking about her lips all day and can't hold back. When our lips meet, I take my time moving slowly over her mouth. Once we pull away, I give her one last peck before I whisper to her.
“Hello,” I say to her.
“Hi,” she whispers back with a smile.
“I’ve been thinking about doing that all day,” I admit. She tries to hide her smile, biting her lip which makes me lean in for another kiss. “You’re staying tonight, by the way.”
I love the laugh she lets out at that. “Oh, really? What if I had plans?”
We begin to get up to head towards the kitchen for dinner. I can't help but walk behind her and watch her ass in her cut off jean shorts. This dinner is going to be torture, knowing I need to behave until Harper is in bed.
“If you had plans, I would tell you that you need to cancel them.”
She looks back at me, a bit surprised by my bluntness, and I offer a wink. She has no idea what she is in for if that shocks her. She is about to see sides of me she has never seen and now that I have officially decided to try this out with her, she is going to see them.
We get Harper set up in her highchair again, since she has enjoyed it so much, then settle into our routine. I tell her about my day at work and she tells me about her day with Harper.
“She had a great time at my pool today. I took her to my apartment and we swam and splashed around. This girl is a little fishy in the water, not afraid to get her face wet.”
I’m not afraid to get my face wet either.I want to tell her this, but I figure we can hold off on that kind of talk while my daughter is sitting right next to us. But just thinking about getting my face wet with her juices has me sporting a semi under the table right now. It’s amazing how dirty my thoughts can get when I give myself permission to want someone. I feel like a teenager all over again with this woman.
“I’m glad both of you had fun,” I recover with a clean response.
“So, we haven’t really addressed the fact that I'm back in the classroom in one week. Have you found someone to watch Harper yet?”
“Actually, I met with Leah this past weekend. She is a college student who lives down the street. She's going to be able to take Mondays and Wednesdays since those are her night classes. Mom is going to switch to the other days to fill in.”
“Oh, thank goodness! I was so worried you were going to have to send her to daycare. I like knowing that she gets to keep her routine at the house. I was going to feel so guilty if things didn’t work out.”
