Those few mumbled words give me hope. Hope that I can make it out of this and back to the men I love. My only fear is that by leaving the way I did, I may have fractured our relationships.

I sit in silence as Alexander moves across the room, taking the empty spot beside me. “Malcolm, where is your brother, he's not answering his phone?” he asks harshly.

“He went to the club after he left the party last night, he’s probably detained in bed with someone or a couple of someone’s.” he tells his father, not even bothering to take his gaze from the game show now playing on the television.

“Hopefully it’s a woman, and he’s given up this fascination with men. It’s embarrassing to have my son out chasing dick.”

Before Malcolm gets a chance to reply back, a nurse appears at the door across the waiting room, “Arianna, come with me please,” calling me to the back to be seen.

I go to stand, wincing when the pain intensifies from the weight placed upon it.

“Malcolm, help your step mother please, can’t you see she’s in pain?” Alexander says, pretending to be the doting partner. Is he for fucking real?

An hour and a half later we’re leaving. I have a boot on my foot, my arm in a sling, and waiting on the results from my STD test. Fucker didn’t even leave the room when the doctor performed the pelvic examination. Thankfully Malcolm took it upon himself to step out of the room, giving me some semblance of privacy and respect.

I’m able to walk to the car now, well with some support from Malcolm. Once we’re inside the car, Alexander fills me in on the plans.

“We’ll be having dinner at Maciano’s tonight where I will be introducing you to some business associates. You’re to look pretty and keep your fucking mouth shut. The good doctor was nice enough to put a rush on your tests, and guarantees we will have them before the end of the day. Tonight I’ll be taking that pussy of yours.” he tells me, before he pulls out his phone and begins to scroll through his messages, as if he didn’t just say what he did.

I think back to what I heard Malcolm say, and decide to just bite my tongue, hoping against all odds I can get out of this situation I put myself in, or I end it all. I will not live my life with this man.

It’s the only vow I will make that I plan to keep.
