"If there's nothing else..." I trailed off.

"Just be careful," Amadeo said. "Something's going on here and if anyone figures out you're the one that offed that guy, they'll be after you."

"I was careful," I said. "No one that stepped out of that bar was alive by the time I was done."

"Still," Amadeo insisted. "Watch your back."

I nodded. After the night I'd had, he was right. Someone had a target painted on all of our backs. I need to keep Calix close to me. We went our separate ways after the meeting and I walked into the backyard to find Calix and Six talking.

"Time to go," I said.

Calix glanced at me before he looked back at Six. "Text me later."

"Will do," Six said cheerily before he grinned at me. "I see you took my advice and went easy on my friend," he teased. "See? It all worked out for you because of me. You owe me one."

"I don't owe you shit," I growled. "You're the reason I got stuck with him in the first place."

"Hey!" Calix glared at me. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

Six chuckled as I stumbled over my words. Calix continued to glare at me and I rubbed the back of my neck. "Nothing," I grumbled. "Move your ass."

Calix crossed his arms over his chest. "Where the hell are we going?"

"Don't test me," I snapped.

"Fuck you."

I grabbed Calix's arm and yanked him against me. "What was that?"

The spark in his eyes was back. Instead of folding right away, he stared back at me without saying a word. Six snickered and I gave him a death glare.

"Stop it," Amadeo said as he grabbed a handful of Six's hair. "You're starting trouble."

"I'm bored." Six laughed as he was dragged away. "Ow, ow, come on. Ouch! Daddy," he moaned as they disappeared back into the house.

I turned back to Calix. "Don't pay that moron any attention."

Calix punched me in the chest and I grunted. "He's not a moron. An asshole, sure. But not a moron." I slipped my hand into his and he didn't pull away. "So what do you mean when you say you got stuck with me?"

I groaned. This was going to be a long ass day.

I pulled into my usual spot in the parking structure of my high rise. My heart sat in my throat as I climbed out and Calix followed. He looked around, confusion coloring his face as he walked over to me.

"Where are we?"

"Home," I said shortly. "Well, my home."

Calix didn't follow me so I turned to look at him. He stared at me and I threw up a hand.

"Your place? Like your real place?"

"What kind of stupid question is that?" I asked. "Of course, it's my real place. What? Do you think I have a fake place just waiting around?"

"Probably," Calix said. "I mean it's...you. I've heard about how you are with people."

I groaned. "Everyone needs to learn to keep their mouths shut." I took his hand and frowned as I turned on my heels and tugged him along behind me. "Yeah I have a reputation, but you've known that from the start."
