The thunderingof applause filled the room and people were up and on their feet as the fighters entered the ring. First, was a guy that was huge, a scar over his eye as he glared ahead. And then there was Calix.
My breath caught in my chest as my boy took his rightful place in the ring. He looked ahead, determination written on his face. Calix tilted his head left and right before he shook out his arms.
You've got this, baby.
Calix glanced over at me and I saw the corner of his mouth quirk up before the smile was gone as quickly as it had come. He turned back to his opponent and I was forgotten about entirely as he put all of his attention on the match.
"Can't believe you let him out of the house," Six said as he grinned and leaned back in his seat. "I was sure you would lock him up before tonight."
"I thought about it."
Six cackled. "Yeah, we could all see that. The way you were pacing back and forth every damn day was enough to drive all of us insane."
I groaned as he laughed at my expense. Yeah, I'd been an overbearing bastard the past few days, but I couldn't help it. When it came to Calix, I wanted to lock him away and keep him close, never letting anything hurt him. But I knew I couldn't keep him pinned down forever.
Fighting was everything to him. And I couldn't take away from my boy.
"Yeah," Amadeo said drawing my attention to him. "So you see what I was saying before?"
I glared at him. Goddamn, that asshole. The whole reason I'd gotten thrown into looking after Calix was because Amadeo wouldn't take the gym away from him. And now I knew I was as much of a sucker as my big brother was.
I flipped Amadeo off. "That love shit? It's fucking contagious."
He grinned. "I don't hear you complaining when Caslix is next to you."
"Yeah, but he ain't next to me right now," I answered.
"Don't pout," Amadeo cooed. "You'll have him back as soon as the match is over. Speaking of-"
He nodded toward the ring and I completely forgot about him. Calix shifted around. The man he was up against was bigger, but Calix was faster. He dodged a punch before his leg came up and he aimed for his opponent's stomach. At the last minute, however, the man grabbed his ankle and Calix went down hard.
I shot out of my seat. "Come the fuck on!" I shouted. "You seein' this shit?"
"He's got it!" Six called. "Come on, Cal!"
My heart squeezed in my chest and my fists tightened. As much as I supported him, I wanted to run into the ring and grab the other guy. How many times would I have to smash his face against the ground before he stopped moving?
"No," Amadeo said with a sigh. "Do not kill him."
A jab was thrown into Calix's face and blood spilled from his lip. Heat raced up my back and I moved forward before Ric grabbed me on the other side and shook his head.
"I wasn't going to-"
"You were," he said with a shrug. "I don't blame you, but this isn't the time or place. He'll be mad at you."
I bristled. I could already see Calix cursing me out for ruining his match. Knowing him, he'd ignore me until he wasn't pissed off anymore and I couldn't handle that. Nothing made him talk once he was mad. It was the worst kind of punishment.
He's turned me into a little bitch.
A growl slipped past my lips. When I got him home, cleaned up, and made sure he was okay, I would fuck him into the mattress for making me feel like this. Calix Gonzalez got to me in the worst kind of ways. He was so deeply embedded that I couldn't get him out of my head and I didn't want to.
Seth, Cal's opponent, landed an uppercut and Cal went down once more. My heart all but stopped. Watching my boy fight someone when I couldn't do anything? The hardest thing I ever had to do. Every instinct screamed to go save him, but I stood back and waited.
Calix wasn't an idiot. He was good at what he did and after his stint of underground fights I knew he could hold his own. But that didn't mean I couldn't worry.
My boy raised a leg and it connected with his opponent's face. He dropped to the ground and Calix was on him in an instant. He wrapped his legs around the man and held him in a headlock. His rival tried hard to get free, but Calix didn't let up.
