“Did you—did you—see her face?” I barely got out between breaths.

“Only upside down,” Lexi said and snort-laughed.

When we eventually calmed down, I carefully helped her move out of the tub.

I quickly adjusted myself before I lifted my sorry ass out of there.

Lexi stood and wobbled a little. Instinctively, I held onto her upper arms. “You okay?” I asked while I waited for her eyes to stop spinning.

“I’m good. Is your back all right?” I loved the fact she asked me that.

“I’m fine.”

We stared at each other for a few more seconds—and then my eyes dropped to her lips. I bent down to kiss her.

“Trey, don’t,” she said and moved her head to the side. Instead, I kissed her on her warm cheek.

I swear I heard her sigh.

“Yuck,” she said, and wiped her face, “you’re getting cleanser on me.”

She yanked a washcloth off the rack and stuck it underneath the tap. After she wrung it out, I watched her carefully wipe her cheek off.

Then she turned to me. “Okay sit down here, this time. And try not to fall.” I let her move me back. She reached around me and I heard the toilet lid shut.

Then she pushed down on my shoulders.

As soon as I sat, she began gently removing the cleanser from my face with the warm washcloth.

It felt relaxing to sit and watch her work on cleaning my face with soft, gentle movements.

She rinsed off the cloth. “Close your eyes,” she ordered, and I did exactly that. Then I felt warmth over my entire face.

I opened my face to darkness. “Are you trying to smother me?” My hands darted out and I grabbed onto her hips.

Or, at least I thought those were her hips. If they weren’t, I was pretty sure she’d let me know immediately.

I felt her body shake underneath my hands and then I heard her laugh. “Not yet. This is to open your pores.”

“I didn’t know they were closed,” I replied, unsure of exactly how a pore opened or shut. Or why I should care either way.

“Give it a minute.”

So, I did.

And, the whole time she allowed my hands to stay on her. Not once did she try to move out of my hold.

Lexi removed the washcloth and wiped my skin again. She picked up a blue bottle in one hand, a round cotton pad in the other, and squeezed out some kind of blue liquid onto the round pad.

The air filled with the scent of raspberries. “That smells good,” I said with a large inhale. “Not as good as you, but still good.”

Her eyes looked down at mine and she gave me a small grin. “This might sting for a second.”

Sure enough, as soon as she touched the blue tinged pad to my face I felt a sting. “Ouch.” I flinched slightly and moved away.

She giggled slightly. “Don’t be such a baby.” Lexi shifted forward and continued doing what she was doing until my entire face felt like it was on fire.

“Umm, is it normal to feel like my skin is bubbling off?”
