“You just broke up with your ex-girlfriend like three weeks ago. It’s not like you’ve had a ton of time to work through that.”
Lauren cleared her throat before taking a long sip of her drink. As she explained how her relationship with her ex devolved over time, Sylvie ate her pizza.
When she was finished, Sylvie cocked her head to the side. “So your problem is that you don’t know how to tell when things are over?”
Lauren’s dark eyebrows flew up her creased forehead. “Orrrr I’m a diehard romantic who believes in the power of love.”
Sylvie laughed. “You’re so full of shit.”
“For real! I’m a Cancer. I was born to be fiercely loyal. It’s hard to give up on someone I care about.”
Sylvie rolled her eyes. “You don’t really believe in that stuff, do you?”
“You’re such an Aries. So skeptical.” She laughed. “If you can’t control it, you think it’s bullshit. You can put your faith in something other than yourself, you know?”
With something of a growl rumbling in her throat, Sylvie realized that she didn’t like being called out so accurately. It was unnerving.
Lauren balled up her napkin and tossed it onto the table. “Is this a speechless, Sylvia?” She grinned. “I like it.”
“Don’t get used to it,” Sylvie warned, eager to move on to the next part of their date.
“Are you ready?” Sylvie stood.
“For?”
“The rest of our evening.”
“There’s more?” Lauren pushed her chair back. “Lead the way.”
