She leans back surprised. “What?”

I step forward and wrap her in my arms again. “Don’t worry. Everything will be fine.”

She steps back again, and I groan. Her face is full of worry. “Everything isn’t fine. This is my fault. You told me it could hurt your business, and now it’s my dad trying to ruin your reputation.” Her voice starts to shake as she says this next part. “I can stop him. If I tell him we’re not together anymore, he’ll stop. He’s just doing this to hurt me. To put shame on me. He doesn’t care about you.”

I feel like my heart falls into my stomach. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean? You’re trying to break up with me?”

I can see tears starting to form in her eyes, and I know Angie isn’t one to cry easily. “Eric, I can’t have your business hurt because of me. That’s why you didn’t want to be with me in the first place. I should have just listened to you.”

“Fuck that! I love you Angie. Don’t you understand? I’d give up anything for you. Who gives a fuck about my business if I can’t be with you.”

Angela

I just stare back at Eric for a moment. I want to believe his words, but he said over and over again how people would talk about how I was too young for him, and now that’s happening. I look up into his eyes though and see nothing but love. I give him a half smile. “Are you sure?”

He still looks hurt, but he attempts to smile back. “More than anything.”

I take in a deep breath. “Okay then. What do you need me to do?”

He steps forward and runs his hand along my cheek. “Nothing. I’ll handle this. Don’t worry about anything.”

I just sigh. “Let me call Rob. Maybe he can talk some sense into my dad.”

Eric laughs then. “I doubt anyone can talk sense into that man. He can’t even see he has the most special girl in the world as his daughter.”

I laugh then. “Okay Eric, getting a little corny on the sentimental side as well as your jokes now.”

He leans down and kisses my lips. “I don’t care. I’m a dad through and through. Deal with it.”
