Eric

I’m sipping on my drink trying to think of a way to get out of this conversation. Alaric and Emory ditched me when some blonde woman started talking to me. I asked her to sit and drink with me, but I’m regretting it now.

I tried to make one of my corny dad jokes, but she just looked at me funny. All I can think about is the way Angela would laugh hysterically at her own cheesy jokes. I love the way she never takes things so seriously. She’s just always happy even when things are going bad for her.

I mention to the blonde that Emory is my daughter, and again she just looks at me funny and then changes the subject. I don’t know why I’m even still sitting here. If she isn’t interested in my daughter or my jokes, what’s the point? There’s no way I’m interested in taking this woman home. Even if it was only for the night, I’m not even attracted to her even if physically she’s beautiful to most people. She’s not to me.

I glance over and see Alaric and Emory stop at the bar while they are on their way out. It looks like they ran into someone they know, but I can’t see who it is behind Alaric’s body. I turn back to the lady, and she is still going on about something that I don’t care about. I am trying to think of a way to politely excuse myself. Maybe I can go to the bathroom and then just not come back?

Maybe Emory can make up an excuse for me. I can wait until they leave and then pretend she is calling me with an emergency. I glance back over at them to see if they’ve left yet, but my eyes open in surprise as I see who they are talking to. Angela.

I feel like my breath is knocked out of me. How is she always so stunning? Her hair is flowing all over her shoulders that are exposed in that tiny yellow shirt. Her legs look extra long in the jeans and boots she’s wearing. My eyes run back up to her face, and then she looks back at me and our eyes lock.

She doesn’t look away, and I couldn’t if I tried. Her eyes quickly glance over at the woman sitting next to me and then come back to mine. I never look away from her the whole time. She looks back over at Emory and finishes saying goodbye to them.

Emory and Alaric leave and then she is just sitting there alone again. I still barely glance at the woman sitting next to me as I just watch her as she sips on her drink and pulls out her phone. My own phone dings with a text from Emory.

Emory: Head’s up. Angela is here with Killian. Don’t do anything stupid.

I look back up, but I don’t see him anywhere. She gets a phone call and answers it. It’s probably him. Fuck. I can’t just sit around and watch her with him again. That’s exactly what I’ll do if I stay here though. I need to leave. I quickly text Emory back.

Me: Can you call me and give me an excuse to leave?

Emory: OMG dad. Give the woman a chance. Give her ten more minutes and if you still want to leave, text me.

I bounce my leg anxiously as I try to think of how I can get out of here before then. If he shows up and I have to watch them together for 10 minutes, I’m not going to handle it well. My 'date’ clears her throat and is looking at me like she just asked a question but I’m not sure what she said. “I’m sorry, what?”

She leans her head toward my phone. “Is everything okay? You looked worried.”

Oh perfect. I can just pretend she texted me about an emergency. I don’t need to wait ten minutes for Emory to call me. “No actually, I-”

I’m cut off by a voice I’d know anywhere. “Oh, there you are!”

I turn and look at Angela. “Here I am.” I give her a confused look.

She leans against the table in a way that accentuates all her curves, and my eyes can’t help but roam down her body again. “Sorry I’m late.” She smiles at me, completely ignoring the woman next to me.

The blonde lady that I can’t remember her name looks over at Angela. “Can I help you?”

Angela just glares back at her. “Back off lady.”

The blonde stands from her stool. “Excuse me?”

Angela doesn’t back down. “He’s mine!” She almost growled that last part, and I swear to God my dick stood straight up. Fuck that was hot.

The blonde huffs out a breath and just stomps off. Angela turns back to me, and she can see how much I want her right now. I think my mouth might actually be hanging open just breathing at her like an animal. I need her now.

I stand from my chair and grab her hand and lead her out of the bar. I don’t care what happened to her date, and I’m not going to ask about him. We are almost to the exit when we run into one of my main contractors. “Eric hey! What are you doing here? This isn’t usually your scene.”

Out of instinct I drop Angela’s hand and put space between us. I know I’ve made a mistake the second I look over at her and see the anger in her eyes. She just rolls her eyes at me and starts walking away. I quickly excuse myself and chase after her. “Angie, wait!”

She doesn’t stop. “Fuck off Eric.”

I run to catch up to her and stop in front of her so she can’t keep walking forward. I don’t know what to say to her to make this better, but I get desperate. “You said you just wanted sex.”

She raises her eyebrow at me and crosses her arm over her chest but doesn’t say anything, so I continue. “That entails we aren’t together in public. We aren’t dating. No one has to know. That’s what you said.”

She purses her lips as she thinks about what I am saying, and she knows I’m right. I add on. “I want that. I want this.” I know I sound like a total douchebag, but I can’t just let her go. I step forward closer to her and lean down near her. “Please…”
