I just grunt. “Of course not.”
He laughs. “C’mon food is being served. You’re going to need it if you keep drinking like that all night.”
I groan. “It’s a Monday night. I can’t drink more than this one.”
He just laughs. “Yeah okay. We’ll see how that plan goes.”
???
Alaric was right. I’m already on my third drink of the night. I can’t help it. I need something to distract me from looking over at them, but I can’t help myself. He keeps running his hand on her neck and shoulders, and she keeps laughing like he’s the funniest guy she knows. I want to make her laugh. Usually I’d be hanging out with Alaric at a dinner like this, but Emory keeps pulling his attention away from me, so I have nothing left to do but glance over at them.
Her date finally steps away toward the bathrooms, and Angela gets up to get a drink at the bar. Before I know what I am doing, I am standing up and walking over toward her. I lean against the bar next to her, and she turns to me. I breathe in her scent, and give her a half smile as I take her in. She’s even more beautiful up close. “Hi.”
I know it’s not my best line, but it was all I was able to manage to get out. She gives me a funny look and then just says back. “Hi.”
I blow out a breath. “I wanted to say sorry about the other night. I wanted to talk to you, but you left before I got back.”
She narrows her eyes at me. “Oh yeah because there’s no such thing as a phone.” She says sarcastically. “Oh right, you probably don’t even know what a cell phone is since you’re soooo much older than me. I keep forgetting. Silly me.” She turns back toward the bar and grabs her drink.
I can’t help myself, so I reach out to her. “Angela…”
She pulls her arm away from me and stares back. “What?”
I’m about to apologize again when her date is suddenly right by us. “This man bothering you, love?”
I stare over at him. “Excuse me?”
He just glances at me. “I was talking to the lady.”
I grip my hands at my side, so that I don’t accidentally attack the man. Angela just laughs. “Killian, this is my best friend’s dad. You know Emory who you just met earlier.”
He looks me up and down but doesn’t introduce himself. “Ahh…” He leans down and whispers something in her ear that I can’t hear, and I just grip the bar counter harder.
She turns back to me. “Good to see you Mr. Livingston.” Then they both walk away together leaving me here all alone. I turn toward the bar and order another drink. What the hell I guess.

Angela
Killian walks me back to our table, but I almost wish he had taken a little while longer in the bathroom so that Eric could have finished what he was trying to say. I know I shouldn’t want him to. There obviously is no future there, and I have this hottie with me anyway. What do I care what he has to say?
I glance back one more time, and he is still staring at me. He hasn’t stopped the whole night. I know it should feel creepy, but it just doesn’t. I like it. I want to look back, but I control myself. I just take quick glances whenever Killian is taking a drink or looking away.
Killian leans down to my ear. “Is he your lover?”
I open my eyes wide at him. “What?”
He nods his head over toward Eric. “Your friend’s dad. You are sleeping with him, eh?”
I narrow my eyes at him. “Absolutely not.”
He just laughs. “Okay. No need to be defensive. I did not mean to offend you.”
I lean in close to him. “You want to get out of here?” I may be trying to overcompensate by taking Killian home, but what the hell.
He smiles at me. “Absolutely.”
I quickly get up and walk over to Emory’s table where Eric returned to. I give her a quick hug. “Hey, we’re taking off. I’ll call you tomorrow.”
