I pinch the bridge of my nose. “Of course I am. You know I am.”

He just looks at me. “So what’s the problem then?”

I just stare at him with my mouth hanging open. “That is the problem! What if people found out? How would they think about the company then knowing I am sleeping with a 26 year old? What if her dad found out? For Christ sake, he was just at our last barbeque.”

Alaric just smirks. “How would anyone find out? The only people who knew she was with you were me and Emory.”

I sigh again and run my hands down my face. Alaric just smirks even bigger. “Oh I get it. You’re scared it would lead to more than one night. You like her!”

I glare over at him again. “Can we stop talking about this?”

Alaric just gives me a huge smile. “You are scared of catching feelings for her!”

I just grumble and take another sip of my coffee. “Shut up.”

He grins again. “Why don’t you just ask her out then?”

I roll my eyes. “I already told you why not! Besides I’m not what she’s looking for for that.”

Alaric laughs. “Oh right she’s just trying to shag the hot dad.”

I know he’s just trying to push my buttons so I’ll defend her, but instead I just glare back at him. “Can we just never talk about this again? I don’t see how it matters now anyway.”

He raises his eyebrows at me. “You know you are still going to see her all the time. She’s Emory’s best friend. You can’t just avoid her.”

I look up toward the ceiling again. “I know. I just need to make things go back to how they were before when she was just my daughter’s friend. No more flirting. It’s only causing me more trouble.”

Alaric looks at me seriously then. “Do you think you’ll be able to do that?”

I blow out another breath. “God, I hope so.”
