She just laughs. “What? I’m sure he knows he’s hot. That’s why him and Alaric are friends. Those hot guys always stick together.”
I roll my eyes. “Speaking of which. You need to help me find a date for my grandpa’s birthday. I told my dad and Alaric I was bringing someone.”
Angela jumps up on the bed. “What! You are asking me to set you up? After all the times you’ve rejected my offers in the past?”
I look over at her. “Yeah because your offers have always been weirdos, but this is an emergency. Alaric is bringing a date. I can’t show up alone.”
Angela raises her eyebrows. “Ahh so we are trying to make him jealous I see.”
I shake my head. “No!” I pause. “I just don’t want him to have someone and I don’t. I can’t let him think he’s better than me.”
Angela grins. “Oh! I have the perfect person!”
I give her a weary look. “Perfect?”
She rolls her eyes. “Yes. My cousin Marco just broke up with his girlfriend. I don’t think he’s looking for anything serious yet, but I’m sure he’d go out with you. He’s always liked you.”
I look at her surprised. “Marco? As is super sexy Italian Marco?”
She grins even bigger. “Yes! He is volunteering at the dog shelter Saturday morning, but I’m sure he’s free after.” Angela elbows me a little. “You can just rub how much of a saint Marco is in that smug face of his.”
I smile at her. “He’s perfect! Are you sure he’d want to go though?”
Angela just laughs. “Oh please. When has Marco ever said no to free food?”
I laugh too. “True. I guess you have a point.” I relax a little. “Give me his number. I’ll ask him.”
She pulls her phone out and reads his number to me. I quickly text him that I need a date and that Angela said he couldn’t say no to free food. I added there would also be free booze, and he replied that he definitely couldn’t say no then.
I breathe out a relieved breath and lay down on Angela’s bed. “Good. Now that’s one less thing I have to worry about.” Now if I can just figure out how to deal with seeing Alaric every day at work after what happened between us. It’s going to be a long week.
