Chapter 14

Angela came home from her cousin’s place when I texted her I was staying at her place for a couple days. She came bursting through the door and wrapped me in a huge hug. “I was so worried! I can’t believe what happened. How come you are here though?”

I narrow my eyes at her. “You had dinner with my dad?”

She gives me a mischievous grin. “Hey, don’t make it sound like that! I was worried about you. You weren’t answering my texts. He was the only one I could find out what was going on with.”

I roll my eyes at her. “You know if you get with my dad I will purposefully call you mom every time we are out in public so that you feel old.”

She just laughs. “But for real. You never answered my question. Why are you back here? Were you really mad at your dad for having dinner with me?” She gives me an even bigger smile. “You know I was a part of that dinner too?”

I shove her shoulder. “Yes! And I am still not happy with you.” I sigh and lean back on the couch. “But no. I mean it would be weird as hell if you tried dating him, but who am I to stand in the way of true love?” I joke and wiggle my eyebrows at her.

Angela cringes. “Whoa there. No one said anything about love.”

I laugh, and she comes and sits down next to me. “This sounds like an Alaric problem.”

I sigh again and lean my head back on the couch and look up at the ceiling. “Yes unfortunately. I had to get out of there.”

Angela lifts her legs up on the couch and gets cozy next to me. “What happened?”

I cringe thinking about it. “I sort of told my dad that me and Alaric slept together.”

Angela raises her eyebrows in surprise at me. “What? Why would you do that?”

I close my eyes for a moment. “I don’t know. It just slipped out. I was yelling at him for having you over alone, and it just came out.” I glance over to her. “So this is partially your fault you know?”

She throws up her hands in defence and then leans back. “So what did your dad do?”

I cringe again thinking about what happened. “He punched him in the face.”

Angela gasps. “No! Really?” Before I answer, she adds on. “That’s kind of hot.”

“Angela!” She laughs again. “Sorry continue. What did Alaric do?”

I just shrug my shoulders. “Nothing. He just took it. Then he said it wouldn’t happen again.” My voice cracks a little at that last part, and I quickly clear my throat to try to cover it up.

Angela reaches over and grabs my hand. “Ouch. How are you doing?”

I smile back over at her. “Fine. Really I just want to forget about him. I just wish I didn’t have to work with him now.”

Angela squeezes my hand. “Do you want to talk about it?” She gently asks.

I just shake my head. “No. I don’t want to ever talk about him again.”

She nods, but we pretty much spend the rest of the night talking about him. I told her everything that happened while we were gone and how I thought something changed between us, but I guess I was wrong.

???

I don’t go home for the rest of the weekend. I probably will after work today, but I’m definitely not staying in my dad’s house. I just want to avoid both of them as long as possible until they just forget everything that happened.

Both my dad and Alaric have called me multiple times and texted me just as many. I haven’t responded to anything. I was hoping Alaric would take the hint and realize if I want to talk to him, I will reach out. No such luck though.

About an hour after I arrived at work, he came into my office. “You’re here.” He says softly like he wasn’t sure I’d even show up.

I roll my eyes at him as I head over to the printer to make some copies of some paperwork. “I work here don’t I?”

He walks further into my office. “You’ve been avoiding me.”
