Chapter 7
Just like clockwork, Alaric shows up in my office on Monday with lunch. I swear this guy couldn’t break a promise to my dad to save his life. It seems like he is even more grumpy than usual today. He already showed up in my office twice this morning with problems.
He comes in all angry and sets the food on the desk. I just raise an eyebrow at him. “You know I told you that you don’t have to bring me lunch. You obviously don’t want to be here.”
He rolls his eyes. “Why wouldn’t I want to spend my time with such a nice girl like yourself?” He says sarcastically.
Then I roll my eyes back at him. “What’s got you in such a mood today? You’re even worse than usual.” I take a bite of my sandwich. “Did you run out of time and couldn’t jack off to yourself in the mirror this morning.” I actually laugh out loud at my own joke.
He just glares over at me. “No actually, I kept trying but then your face would pop into my head and I’d go completely soft.”
I open my mouth at him. “Wow jerk. Too far.”
He rolls his eyes again. “Of course you don’t care when I insult your intelligence. Only your body.”
I stand from my chair and place my hands on my desk. “No asshole. My intelligence is what is sexy about me. Sorry you are too shallow to know that.”
He looks at me and suddenly gives me this great smile. I don’t know why it warms my heart. I’ve never seen him smile like that. It’s so genuine like he wasn’t expecting me to say what I did. I can’t help the small smile that forms on my own face. I quickly sit back down and mumble. “I hate you.”
He just grins and finishes his sandwich in silence for the next minute. Then he stands up to leave, but before he does he leans closer to me. ‘Just so you know, intelligence is what turns me on.”
I just stare back at him for a moment. I feel my heart rate speed up a little. He leans even closer to me and then he whispers, “That’s why you don’t turn me on at all.” A huge smile forms on his face, and he turns and starts walking out.
I am just standing there shocked for a moment. “Motherfucker!”
He just keeps walking out and never turns around. “Try not to screw up any more orders today.” He waves over his head and walks out the door. That asshole.
???
The rest of the week is a lot more of the same. Alaric has been even more rude this week than the previous ones. I have been trying my best to just ignore him, but it feels like it is impossible. Not only is he my boss, but then I also always see him at home. What’s worse though is that I don’t want to ignore him at all. He’s like a drug I know is bad for me, but I just keep going back for more anyway.
By the time Thursday rolls around, I need a reprieve from him, so I ask Angela to come over for dinner so that I have someone to distract me from Alaric. She knocks on the door, and I quickly go answer. “Oh thank God you’re here.”
She smiles. “Why, what’s up?”
I sigh. “I need some backup to deal with satan over there.”
Angela takes a glance toward the living room where Alaric and my dad are sitting talking. “Ooo now that is a sexy group of men over there.”
I grab her by the jaw and bring her face back over to mine. “Do not check out my dad in front of me.”
Angela laughs, and I give her a serious look. “I’m serious over here. The man is driving me insane.”
She pulls me closer and lowers her voice. “Seems like you both just need to get laid. I wonder how on earth both of you could solve that problem at the same time?”
I roll my eyes at her. “I already told you that will never happen.”
Just then Alaric and my dad walk into the kitchen. Alaric looks at me. “What will never happen?”
I place a hand on my hip and make a bratty face at him. “You making a connection with another human.”
He smirks at me and places his hand over his heart “Oh, but Emory, I thought we had a connection.” He mocks.
I lean forward and whisper in his ear. “Sorry Alaric. That little tingle you feel in your groin does not mean we have a connection.” I pull away, and he just smirks at me.
I look over to Angela for backup, but she moved further into the kitchen and is talking to my dad. “Hi Mr. Livingston. Thanks for having me for dinner.”
I roll my eyes. Wow she’s laying it on thick. My dad just smiles at her. “Of course Angela. You know you’re welcome anytime.”
