Chapter 6
Iwake up the next day, and the sun is already up. I must’ve slept in. I try to open my eyes, but I feel like I was hit by a brick. I must’ve drank even more than I thought last night. It feels like a knife is being stabbed into my head. I need food. And coffee.
I roll out of bed and head out to the kitchen. I check my fridge, but I literally just have leftover take out in there. I don’t even bother putting on shoes and head over to my dad’s house.
I start the coffee machine and check in the fridge. I find eggs, so I grab a pan out and start making scrambled eggs. I need some seasoning so I go to the pantry to find some.
I am reaching up for the pepper when a voice sounds behind me. “You making me breakfast?”
I let out a little yelp and turn around quickly. “What are you doing here?”
He just raises an eyebrow at me. “I live here. I think the more important question is why are you here. Cooking me breakfast. In that.” He nods toward my outfit. I didn’t think anyone was here, so I didn’t bother getting dressed. I have on tiny plaid shorts with a sleep tank.
I fold my arms over my chest. “I didn’t make you anything. That food is for me”
I scoop my eggs onto my plate and make a big scene of taking a bite. “Mmm...so good.” I say with my mouth full of eggs. He just rolls his eyes and grabs a cup of coffee from the pot I just made.
I go and sit on the barstool at the counter and continue to eat. “For real, what are you doing here?”
He takes a sip of his coffee. “I thought I already answered that question.”
I just shrug. “Yeah, but don’t sociopathic workaholics usually spend Saturday mornings doing awful things like working or going for a morning run.”
He narrows his eyes at me. “Yeah actually, but it just so happens I had to babysit some little brat all night so I was tired.”
I just give him the biggest grin. I take another sip of my coffee and take Alaric in. He’s wearing plaid pajama bottoms with a t-shirt. Hmm...strange. He doesn’t seem like the type to wear pajamas. “I didn’t peg you for a pajama pants type of guy.”
He just shrugs. “I’m not.”
I motion towards his outfit. “Care to explain?”
“I heard you come in. I wasn’t wearing any of this before.”
I raise my eyebrows in understanding. “Ahh...so are you a boxer or briefs type of sleeper.”
He leans his arms on the counter in front of me and lowers his voice to a more annoyed tone. “Neither.” Then he crosses his arms over his chest. “You sure like to ask a lot of personal questions.”
I just smile back at him and try to pretend I am not thinking about him sleeping naked now. “Just getting to know the enemy and all.”
He leans forward so he is even closer and lowers his voice even more. “You don’t know anything I don’t want you to know.”
His eyes briefly fall to my lips, and so I smirk back at him. “I know you hate yourself for still wanting to finish what we started last night.”
He clenches his teeth, which makes a few veins pop out in his neck. My eyes are drawn there and now all I can think about is how sexy his jaw is and how I want to run my tongue along it.
Before he can respond, the front door swings open, and my dad walks in. “Honey, I’m home!” He jokes.
Alaric takes a step back and busies himself by washing out his coffee cup. My dad walks into the kitchen and sees us both here. He takes a look at both of us in our pajamas. “What’d you guys have a sleepover or something?”
My eyes pop open wide at my dad. He doesn’t know what happened between me and Alaric, so to him the question is perfectly innocent. I try to calm my face down so that I don’t give myself away. I cannot let him find out that me and Alaric kissed. Almost more than kissed if he hadn’t called.
I get up and go give my dad a hug. “I just came over for hangover eggs. How come you are back already?”
He steps back from our hug. “I met with the local contractor early this morning. He is going to finish the specs for me, so I headed out early to get back home.”
I smile at him. “Good. You need some fun time. Can’t always be working or you’ll turn into Alaric.”
My dad laughs. “Oh God. Could you imagine two guys in your life being such assholes?”
