“So, are you going to tell me what the hell it was that you said to my dad to make him laugh like that?” Cara asked as Rahul drove the couple away from her house.
“Were you spying on me, Cara Knox?” Coop replied, incredulously.
“Um, yeah, of course I was spying on you!”
“I honestly just answered his questions… nothing more.”
“How did you do that?”
“Do what?”
“Disarm him so quickly. I’ve never seen my father let his guard down that fast.”
“I guess it was my southern charm…”
“You’re not going to tell me are you?”
“Nope…”
“Well then… you suck…”
“Wow… is this our first fight? How cute!”
“Very funny, Cooper Madison…”
“Listen, sometimes it’s best to take what was a wonderful moment and leave it that way.”
“Ugh… did you get that off of a fortune cookie?”
“You are a feisty one tonight, aren’t you?”
Cara feigned an angry face at Coop, but when she looked into his eyes she couldn’t help but give in to the facial muscles that she was fighting to keep from smiling.
“Thank you…” she said.
“For what?”
“For coming tonight, it means a lot, even if you won’t tell me what you said to my father...”
“You’re welcome… I’m just sorry that I didn’t take you up on it when you asked.”
“Well, you certainly made up for it.”
The two leaned in towards each other and passionately kissed each other as if the world around them no longer existed.
Rahul, who saw the embrace occur in his rearview mirror, waited until there was a break in the action to ask where it was he should take them.
“Mr. Madison, shall I drop you off at the Wescott?”
“Yes, both of us, and it will be the final stop of the night,” Cara answered before Coop could.
“Of course, Miss Knox,” Rahul confirmed.
“Are you sure?” Coop asked Cara.
“Positive.”
“I just don’t want you to think-”
Cara pressed her index finger against his lips.
“Nothing…”
Coop smiled and relented.
“Nothing...”
