“I don’t think we’re that lucky,” Jason replied.

“Gotta check it out, though…”

“I wouldn’t be able to sleep if we didn’t.”

It was almost midnight of what had been a very long day, but they both felt that they had to follow-up on the lead before calling it a day.

“Do you think Ernie even knows that we are on to him?” Mick asked.

“I guess our only hope is that he doesn’t. Maybe he thinks he’s running from the Russians, not the cops. He can’t know that they told us anything, and as of earlier today he certainly thought that he got away with it when I let him go.”

“Maybe if he thinks he’s running from the Russians then he’d assume he had some time to lay low before making a break for it.”

“He doesn’t have a ton of cash on him and the borders have all been notified, so there’s a chance you’re right. He might ask this friend who owes him favors to use his boat, try to make it to Canada,” Jason agreed.

“You would think if that was the case he already would’ve left, though, don’t you?” Mick asked.

“Maybe, but maybe he couldn’t get a hold of the guy. Maybe this guy Jake was out on the water for a chartered trip? It was a beautiful day, after all. If we’re really lucky then he’s still in the area and he doesn’t have a clue that it’s not the Russians he’s hiding from.”
